ResultsMONMOUTH, Ore. - At the conclusion of the first day of competition at the 2014 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Montana State University Billings has finishers on the board for both the men's and the women's teams.
The big winner after Day 1 of the conference championship for MSUB was junior
Corrie Holm as she finished the season taking first place in the women's discus with a throw of 43.70m. Holm was the GNAC leader going into the Championship's opening day of competition; she finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the conference and successfully defended her ranking by becoming champion at this year's conference meet.
"The biggest thing for us today was
Corrie Holm winning the discus," Head Coach
Dave Coppock said. "We also had another great result from Kyle taking fourth place in the men's discus and AJ's fourth in the shot put that really helped us out with our scoring."
Kyle DuCharme was ranked No. 15 in the GNAC heading into the meet today, but had a tremendous second attempt on the day, throwing for a distance of 44.82m to take fourth place. AJ Montanez just finished out on the points by placing ninth with a throw of 42.22m.
However, in the first event of the day, Montanez finished fourth in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.95m. With the two fourth place finishes, MSU Billings has a total of 10 points on the men's side.
