Â
The game was a close contest in the first half until with 6:38 left on the clock, MSU Billings would go on a 10-4 run to take the score to 35-23. SFU would counter with a three-point basket from Erin Chambers and then off an MSUB miss, would drive down and get another three from Marie Lin-Petit to take the Clan to within six.Â
Â
MSUB's
Bobbi Knudsen would come back and make a lay-up and then on an SFU foul, a free-throw to take the score to MSUB 38, SFU 29 at the half.
Â
After the break, MSU Billings would open up the game going on a 13-5 run to start the second half. SFU would counter with a lay-up from Rebecca Langmead, but MSUB would come back with another run scoring 8 points in the next few minutes and taking the Yellowjackets to their largest lead of the game at 20 points 61-41.Â

Â
With under four minutes left in the game, Simon Fraser would fight to get back within 10, but MSUB would hold them back.Â
Janiel Olson would make both her free-throws on an SFU foul and
Kayleen Goggins made a three-point basket to put the Yellowjackets back up by 15, 72-57. That would prove to be the last run by SFU as the Clan couldn't get any closer, and MSU Billings finished out the game winning by 15.Â
Â
"I was really pleased with our win tonight," Head Coach
Kevin Woodin said. "I thought our players were really focused and played really hard. It was a great team effort. Everybody contributed in a positive way on both ends of the floor. Both teams played extremely hard early in the game and I thought our defense was outstanding in the first half. We really made Erin Chambers work for her touches, she was still able to score points, but I thought we defended her and the others well. I thought a key was rebounding. As a team, we controlled the boards and got some extra opportunities on offense which helped us get some transition baskets as well."
Â
For the Clan, the GNAC's leading scorer Erin Chambers finished with a game-high 25 points. She was 8-21 from the field, but was 7-8 from the charity strip. Chelsea Reist had 12 points and nine rebounds. As a team, SFU was 23-65 for 35 percent from the field and 30 percent from three-point territory.  Â
Â
Bobbi Knudsen finished the game with a team-high 21 points and a game-high five rebounds for MSUB. The Yellowjackets shot 43 percent from the field and 26 percent from the three-point arc.
Â
On the glass MSU Billings outrebounded SFU 45-34.Â
Â
MSUB was better on second-chance points 19-7 and had more points in the paint 38-18.
Â
Chelsea Banis finished the game with her first double-double of the season at MSUB. She was 7-9 from the field for 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Banis also had three blocks in the game.
Â
Janiel Olson finished with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Â
Alisha Breen game off the bench to match her career-high and supply the Yellowjackets with 16 points. Breen was 3-6 from the field, but a perfect 2-2 from behind the arc and 8-8 from the free-throw line. She also had five rebounds and three assists on the night.
Â
"
Chelsea Banis had another great game this week. She's really playing well and making a presence inside," Coach Woodin stated. Â Â "
Alisha Breen came off the bench to play a very talented game. Janiel played extremely well. We had another great team win. Bobbi had another outstanding game, with some great looks and
Kayleen Goggins hit a big-three in the end of the second half to really seal the win for us. Overall, we adjusted well and the team fought hard the entire game."
Â
Next week, MSU Billings is back at home for a non-conference game against South Dakota Mines on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The game is scheduled for a 7 PM tip-off.
Â
Saturday, Feb. 8, the Yellowjackets will face their travelling partner Seattle Pacific University in a counter from earlier in the season when the Falcons gained the upper hand 57-63 on a game that was broadcast live on ROOT SPORTS. That game is also slated for a 7 PM start-time.
Â
Both games will have live video and live stats available on MSUBSports.com.
Â
"It will be nice to get back home in front of our home crowd for a couple of weeks," Coach Woodin said. "We are looking forward to both games next week in Alterowitz."
