SPEARFISH, S.D.. – It was a good opening day for the MSU Billings track and field teams. In her first-ever collegiate meet,

Austin Lindquist, a transfer from the University of Montana, tied the MSUB men's indoor 60m hurdles record finishing in fourth place in 8.78 seconds.
"We had some good performances on the day," assistant coach
Nick Collins said. "
Brianna Gray broke the school record in the 60m dash placing second and ran a good 200m final.
Austin Lindquist tied the school record in the 60m hurdles placing fourth, and showed his versatility placing sixth in the long jump."
Gray's record breaks the previous record held by
Blair Street from 2013 of 8.05. Lindquist ties the record from 2011 set by Reece Easterling.
This is the fifth-consecutive year MSU Billings has opened the indoor season at the Yellow Jacket Holiday Open hosted by Black Hills State University. Competing at the meet were host Black Hills State, Montana State University Billings, Chadron State University, and South Dakota School of Mines.
"This meet was a bit of an eye opener for our young team," Coach Collins said. "But, I am pleased with the way they handled themselves. The competition factor is the main thing we need to work on, being able to concentrate and execute proper technique and race strategy when the pressure is on."
Other top-5 finishes at the meet included junior
Brielle Davis coming in second place in the women's mile, crossing the finish line in 5:41.86.
On the men's team, senior
Cameron Stanek was third in the men's 60m dash finishing in 7.19. Led by Stanek in second place, MSUB finished in slots 2-through-4 in the men's 200m dash. Stanek placed second in 23.17,
Sam Zook was third in 23.23, and
Tyler DiGiovanna was fourth in 23.66.
"
Cameron Stanek showed his strength as a sprinter placing second in the 200m, and third in the 60m dash," Coach Collins commented on the MSUB men's sprint team. "I'm very happy with Cameron's early times, and fellow Wyoming native
Sam Zook was close behind in both events. Also,
Kail Pope showed versatility making the finals in the hurdles and placing fourth in the triple jump, an event he hasn't competed in in two years."
In the men's mile,
Jorey Egeland placed third overall in a time of 4:40.01. In the men's 3,000m meter race,
Liam McKay was fourth crossing the line in 9:18.27, and
Garrett Love was fifth in 9:18.97.
Also, finishing in the top-5,
Preston Schubert placed third in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.05m.
"We will have another meet back at BHSU in January before heading to Bozeman for some DI competition," Collins said. "I feel confident our teams will work hard over the break to be ready for the rest of the season."
