Beuhler Hits National Mark at Championships

MONMOUTH, Ore. – On the final day of the 2013 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Montana State University Billings' student-athlete, Dylan Beuhler, hit a provisional-qualifying mark to the NCAA Div. II National Championships.

Beuhler finished fifth in the event Saturday with his third throw of 193-3.25 (58.90 meters). The senior entered the event as the eighth seed, but scored four points for MSUB with his finish. He easily surpassed his seed mark of 56.61 meters. Beuhler's mark is in the top 30 in NCAA Div. II.

Tyson Vanderby broke the school record in the 5,000 meters. The senior crossed the line in second place at 14:57.21. His seed time was 15:06.03, which was ninth entering the race. Western Washington's Dak Riek won the event at 14:51.45. Vanderby tallied another team point with an eighth place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.44.

In the men's 4x400-relay, the Yellowjacket quartet of Lewis Polkow, Thomas Neale, Drew Galahan and Adam Prevost, broke another school record. MSUB finished seventh in the event with a time of 3:24.42. Polkow also broke his own school record in the 400-meter hurdles. The junior placed fourth with a time of 55.75. He qualified in the preliminaries with the seventh-fastest time. In the women's 400-meter hurdle final, Ashlynn VanVoast scored three team points with a sixth place finish.

As a team, the Montana State Billings' men finished in seventh with 33 points, while the women placed eighth with 21 points.

“I'm real proud of how all of our athletes competed,” MSUB Head Coach Dave Coppock said. “This conference is so tough, to come away with some surprising results and points means a lot to our program.”

The Alaska Anchorage women dethroned three-time defending champion, Seattle Pacific. The Seawolves totaled 169 points to SPU's 146. Ali Worthern of Seattle Pacific received the Female Outstanding Performer of the Meet honor. The Western Washington men won their fourth team title, and third in the past four years. The defending champion Vikings held off Central Washington and host Western Oregon. Northwest Nazarene's Rimar Christie was named the Male Outstanding Performer.

Men's Team Scores – Western Washington 183 1/2 , Central Washington 141, Western Oregon 137, Alaska Anchorage 129, Northwest Nazarene 63, Saint Martin's 56, Simon Fraser 33 ½, MSU Billings 33, Seattle Pacific 26. Outstanding Performer – Rimar Christie, Northwest Nazarene.

Women's Team Scores – Alaska Anchorage 169, Seattle Pacific 146, Western Washington 118, Northwest Nazarene 95 ½, Western Oregon 80, Simon Fraser 73, Central Washington 65 ½, MSU Billings 21, Saint Martin's 10. Outstanding Performer – Ali Worthen, Seattle Pacific.
