Billings, Mont. – Montana State Billings men's tennis team won their second straight contest, as they easily put away Colorado Christian University 7-2. The Yellowjackets improve to 5-10 overall and 2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Due to an illness that prevented
Christian Fischer from finishing the contest, the No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles matches were retired, which gave the Cougars their only points in the match. Colorado Christian's Alex Seimers suffered an injury in his doubles match which balanced the score, giving MSUB two points of their own, as he was forced to retire from his No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles matches.
Brad Knutson and
Kavindu Gamage took care of business in their No. 3 doubles match, defeating Matt Gibbs and David Homer 8-0.
Navin Marimuthu kept the momentum going for the Yellowjackets as he won his No. 1 singles match 7-5, 6-3 over Chris Flatless.
Knutson, Gamage and
Josh Hedderig also had solid performances in their singles outings, with each defeating their opponent in straight sets.
“We played well today; and this was a good tune up playing in the high altitude on outdoor courts,” stated head coach Lew Kosich. “Tomorrow we take on CSU-Pueblo and Western New Mexico which will be challenging matches; but I believe we are ready to meet this challenge.”
Next on the agenda for MSU Billings is a trip to Pueblo, Colo. to compete against Colorado State University-Pueblo and Western New Mexico University tomorrow Saturday, April 6.
