Robison & Paterson Interview                             Bishop Interview

Billings, Mont. – Montana State Billings completed the series win (3-1) over Central Washington University, sweeping both contests in their Senior Day event. The Yellowjackets finish the 2013 regular season 21-25-1 overall, 17-14 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. MSUB now shifts their focus to the inaugural GNAC Championship Tournament May 9-11.

Game 1: MSUB  15 – CWU  4

Filled with the emotion of their final outing at Dehler Park, the 2013 senior class of Austin Rue, Samuel Paterson, Mack Unruh, Colby Robison, Bobby Ragasa, Travis Vincent, Orrin Pyrah, Justin Harcharik, Kole Mickolio and Devon Hedin, led their fellow teammates to two impressive victories.

Robison was a perfect 4-4, hitting two home runs and recording seven RBIs and four runs; and Rue (1-5) extended his hitting streak to 26 games. Colter Sternhagen turned in quality numbers at the plate, hitting one home run, and finishing 2-3 with three RBIs and two runs.

Despite Justen Weigel's home run, Scott Stone's 3-4 performance, and Ethan Sterkel's 2-3 outing, Central Washington's offense struggled against the stout arm of Brady Muller (W, 6-3).

Muller put in 8.0 innings of work, and recorded a season high 10 strikeouts, facing 33 batters.

Stuart Fewel (L, 5-2) started for the opposition, but didn't have an answer for MSUB's hitting crew. In his 3.1 innings on the mound he allowed six earned runs off seven hits.

The Yellowjackets found holes in the Wildcats defense throughout the whole game, scoring runs in six out of eight innings. After Weigel's home run in the top of the first gave Central Washington the 1-0 lead, MSUB took the lead in the bottom of the second, registering three runs.

With the 3-1 advantage in hand, MSU Billings extended their lead by five (6-1), adding another three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Sternhagen homered to center field to bring Unruh and Robison in.

The Wildcats cut into the Jackets lead in the top of the fourth, as Sterkel singled to right field, driving in Marc Garza and Stone (6-3). After the Jackets countered with one run in the bottom of the inning, Robison's grand slam in the bottom of the fifth gave MSUB the 11-3 lead, and competitively put the contest out of reach for Central Washington.

The Yellowjackets outscored the Wildcats 4-1 in the last third of the event and easily flew away with the 15-4 victory.

Game 2: MSUB  8 – CWU  7

The Wildcats came out strong in the second contest, as Weigel (2-4, one RBI, two runs) hit his second home run of the day, giving Central Washington the early 1-0 lead. Central then added five more runs in the top of the third to hold the 6-0 advantage entering the bottom of the inning. Kyle Sani (1-2, three RBIs, one run) hit a three-run homer, and Eddie Malone's single to left center brought in Kasey Bielec and Scott Stone.

Despite starting slow, MSUB finished strong; notching runs in every inning after going scoreless in the first two innings. Rue (3-3, two RBIs, one run) hit a triple in bottom of the third to cross Harcharik, giving the Yellowjackets their first score in the contest. He extends his hitting streak to 27 games; No. 2 all-time in the GNAC for most consecutive games with a hit.

In the bottom of the fourth, Unruh brought Fosnes in off a single to right field; and then later scored off Sternhagen's (1-3, two RBIs, one run) homer to right center, bringing MSU Billings within two of the Wildcats lead (6-4).

Trailing by two in the bottom of the fifth, Drew Fosnes (2-4, three RBIs, two runs) hit a bomb over the right field wall, bringing Brody Miller and Rue in with him, giving the Jackets the 7-6 lead. Central Washington quickly countered in the top of the sixth, evening the score at 7-7 going into the second half of the inning.

Rue and the 2013 senior class would not be denied, as his sacrifice fly drove in Pyrah in the bottom of the sixth to reclaim the lead for the Yellowjackets (8-7). Travis Vincent (W, 4-3) completed MSU Billings' comeback, as the Wildcats could only muster one hit in their final at bat. The Jackets would go on to claim the contest. Central Washington falls to 26-19 overall, 17-10 GNAC.

Paterson got the start for MSU Billings and recorded six strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Skye Adams startedfor the opposition but Willie Davies (L, 1-2) was credited with the loss.

MSUB will have two weeks off before they compete in the inaugural GNAC Championship Tournament, May 9-11.
