Billings, Mont. – The Yellowjackets men's tennis team split their Saturday matches, defeating Colorado Christian University, 5-0,; then falling to Colorado Mesa University 1-5. Montana State Billings will play Metropolitan State University of Denver Sunday, April 21 in the third place match.
 
MSU Billings came out strong against the Cougars, sweeping them 5-0. Navin Marimuthu/ Christian Fischer started the event on the right foot for the Jackets winning their No. 1 doubles bout 8-0 over Chris Flathers/ Taylor Bryan. Brandon Beardsley/ Josh Hedderig and Brad Knutson/ Kavindu Gamage followed suit capturing wins in their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles bouts.
 
In singles play, Marimuthu and Fischer clinched the event as they easily won their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches. Marimuthu defeated Flathers 6-1, 6-0; and Fischer downed Bryan 6-1, 6-1.
 
The Yellowjackets unfortunately couldn't carry this success into the Colorado Mesa event. Beardsley/ Hedderig defeated Andres Garcia-Rojas/ Andres Hernandez 8-6, to score MSUB's only point in the contest. Beardsley, Gamage, and Hedderig all had unfinished singles bouts, as the Mavericks cruised to a 5-1 victory. Colorado Mesa will challenge Western New Mexico University for the RMAC Championship Sunday, April 21 at 12 noon.
 
MSU Billings will square off with Metro State in the third place matchup, also at 12 noon on Sunday.
