MSUB Women’s Golf Finishes 16th at CGU Invitational

FINAL RESULTS

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Montana State University Billings' women's golf team moved up one spot in the second round of the Grand Canyon University Invitational to finish in 16th place Tuesday.

The Yellowjackets shot seven strokes better in the final round than their first round total of 348, for a two-day total of 689. MSUB finished tied with Adams State in 16th and ahead of Colorado Mesa. Great Northwest Athletic Conference members, Western Washington and Saint Martin's, finished 14th and 15th.

Melissa Saken had the top score for Montana State Billings with a two-round total of 167. She shot an 83 in the first round and was in 39th place, but after an 84 on Day 2 she ended the tournament in 50th. Katie Fish and BreAnna Cameron both scored 175 and placed 69th. Mariah Cleveland was 80th with a 180 and Cayley Fish was 82nd with a 182.

Last year, MSU Billings showed significant improvement in the second round with the Yellowjackets finishing ninth for the day after posting a 320 team total. The second-day total brought MSUB's total stroke-count up to 665, just five strokes behind Colorado Mesa in 14th. Saken finished third on the team with a 167, but Cayley Fish led the Yellowjackets last season with a 162 total.

Saint Edward's lost their first round five-stroke lead over defending champion and host, Grand Canyon. The Antelopes rallied for a nine-stroke victory. GCU had a one-stroke improvement from the first round with a 309. Northeastern State, Cal State-Chico, and Cal State-East Bay rounded out the top five.

The 'Lopes' No. 5 golfer, Eryn Olson, won the tournament after shooting a 74 in both rounds. She held off Western New Mexico's Arrianna Estrada by one stroke. Spencer Heller of Sonoma State came in third with a two-round total of 152.

The Yellowjacket women travel to Grand Junction, Colo., for the Maverick Spring Invitational hosted by Colorado Mesa University on April 15 and 16. The following week MSUB begins the postseason with the GNAC Championships in Couer d'Alene, Idaho, on April 22 and 23.
