PORTLAND, Ore. — After leading the Montana State University Billings women's golf team to a second-place finish at the Sapona Intercollegiate in Lexington, NC, sophomore
Ella Tannenberger was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week.
Tannenberger was the Yellowjackets' top finisher at the Sapona Intercollegiate last week in Lexington, N.C. The reigning GNAC Freshman of the Year finished in a tie for fourth place among a field of 51 competitors, carding a two-round score of 8-over-par 152 (76-76). Tannenberger finished just three strokes behind the individual tournament champion, making five birdies and carding just one score worse than bogey across the 36-hole event. Tannenberger's best stretch of the week was her final nine holes in the opening round, where she posted a 1-under-par 35 with three birdies across the front-nine. Tannenberger lowered her season scoring average to 78.2 strokes per round and ranks No. 13 in the conference.
MSUB Head Coach Adam Buie: "Ella had a strong start to her spring with matching 76-76 scores to finish tied for fourth place. The course played pretty tough with the women's event having the two coldest days of the week. Only one of the three players who finished higher than her were Division II players. She finished the tournament even-par on par-3s which led the field and she was also even on the par 5s."
UP NEXT: MSUB women's golf will return to action March 22-23 at the Southern Colorado Open in Pueblo, Colorado.
