ROUND ONE RESULTS
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Montana State University Billings' women's golf team is in 17th place after the first round of the Grand Canyon University Invitational Monday.
The Yellowjackets'
Mariah Cleveland and
Melissa Saken are tied in 39th place after day one. The duo shot 11-over-par rounds of 83. Saken hit two birdies and was one-over-par on par-five holes. As a team, MSUB sits in 17th out of 18 teams. Montana State Billings shot a 348, 60-over-par, Monday. It is 19 strokes ahead of Colorado Mesa.
Last year, MSU Billings showed significant improvement in the second round with the Yellowjackets finishing ninth for the day after posting a 320 team total. The second-day total brought MSUB's total stroke-count up to 665, just five strokes behind Colorado Mesa in 14th. Saken finished third on the team with a 167, but
Cayley Fish led the Yellowjackets last season with a 162 total.
Monday, Fish shot a 21-over-par, 93. Her first round total last year was 79. She was one-over-par on par-three holes.
Katie Fish is in 73rd after a first round 89.
BreAnna Cameron also shot a 93.
Saint Edward's (Texas) is holding off defending champion and host, Grand Canyon, after the first round. St. Edward's leads the 'Lopes by five strokes going into the second and final round Tuesday. St. Edward's Ryanne Haddow opened the tournament with an overall best two-under-par, 70. She was the lone golfer to shoot under par Monday. Grand Canyon's Eryn Olson and Spencer Heller of Sonoma State are tied for second at two-over-par.
The second round begins at 7 a.m. Pacific Time Tuesday. Cameron has the first tee time for MSU Billings at 7 a.m. from the 10th hole. Results from the tournament will be posted on MSUBSports.com following the final round.
