Billings, Mont. – The Yellowjackets offense struggled to convert opportunities and dropped both games Sunday afternoon 6-7, 4-8. Montana State Billings left a combined 17 runners on base on the day as they fall to 12-19-1, 8-8 in the GNAC.
Game 1: MSUB 6 – CWU 7
MSUB and the Wildcats didn't play as clean as their Saturday matches, combining for nine errors in the contest.

Brody Miller,
Drew Fosnes and
Colby Robison all recorded two hits and combined for all of the Yellowjackets six runs. Robison and
Tanner Watson both tallied two RBIs each.
Joe Andriolo started for MSUB and went hitless for four innings. In his 6.1 innings on the mound he only allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out two batters.
Ethan Sterkel continues to find success at the plate, finishing 3-5 with two RBIs and one run. Joe Castro also turned in a solid outing, as he went 2-3 and tallied one run and one RBI. Stuart Fewel struggled on the mound for Central, giving up eight hits and six runs in 3.1 innings. Willie Davies (W, 1-0) replaced Fewel in the fourth and pitched the remainder of the contest. He finished with a game high four strikeouts, while holding MSUB's offense to just two hits and zero runs in 5.2 innings of work.
As Central Washington held the 2-1 lead going into the third inning the Yellowjackets scored three runs in the top of the inning to take the 4-2 advantage. Robison's infield single drove in Miller; and Watson's single to right field brought Robison and
Drew Fosnes home.
Rue and Fosnes scored two more runs for MSUB in the top of the fourth, to give the Jackets a 6-2 lead at the end of the inning. MSU Billings' four run cushion would not be enough, as Central Washington clawed their way back to come within one (6-5) of the Yellowjackets entering the ninth inning.
MSUB didn't help their cause in the top of the ninth, only recording one hit and leaving one runner on base. In the bottom of the inning the Wildcats' Castro hit a single to left field bringing Jimmy Ryerson home to equalize the score at 6-6. Central would go on to take the lead and win on a costly fielding error by Robison, allowing Kyle Sani to score the game winning run.
Travis Vincent (L, 2-1) was credited with the loss.
Game 2: MSUB 4 – CWU 8
MSU Billings and Central Washington picked the offense up in the second game, combining for 23 hits. The Wildcats had more success, scoring eight runs off their 13 hits, compared to the Yellowjackets four runs off 10 hits.
Fosnes and Sternhagen had the most success at the plate for MSU Billings as both finished 2-4. Miller recorded three RBIs in the event.
Castro went 3-4 for Central, scored three runs and batted in one run. Marc Garza and Sani both tallied three RBIs each.
Four Jackets saw action on the mound with
Samuel Paterson (L, 2-5) getting his seventh start of the season. Combined the hurlers recorded two strikeouts. Their counterparts threw two pitchers at MSUB's hitters, and struck out three batters. Max Dickinson (W, 1-0) got the start for the Wildcats, and Davis Engel notched his second save of 2013.
After Central Washington took the early 1-0, the Jackets countered in the top of the second, scoring three runs to own a 3-1 advantage entering the bottom of the inning. Miller's double down the left field line crossed
Orrin Pyrah, Rue and Watson. The Wildcats tied the score (3-3) scoring two runs in the bottom of the second.
MSU Billings, went scoreless for two innings, while the Wildcats continued to thrive, scoring three combined runs in the third and fourth innings, owning a 6-3 lead going into the fifth. The Yellowjackets cut the lead by one (6-4) in the top of the fifth when Sternhagen's double brought in Fosnes.
Central quickly countered in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs to hold the 8-4 lead. In their final two at bats, MSUB only mustered three hits and left four runners on base, and the Wildcats would go on to claim their second victory of the day. Central Washington improves to 15-11, 9-3 in the GNAC.
The Yellowjackets will have a week off before they resume play at Dehler Park on Saturday, April 6 against 11 time GNAC champion Western Oregon University.
