Box Score
Billings, Mont. –
Brady Muller's game high six strikeouts was not enough to weather the Red Storm; as Montana State Billings baseball team lost a close battle to No. 24 nationally ranked Dixie State. The Yellowjackets now fall to 2-10-1 on the year.
Muller, making his second start of the season, put in 6.2 innings of work and allowed seven runs in 31 batters faced.
Travis Vincent also saw action on the mound and recorded two strikeouts in his 1.1 innings pitched.
The Red Strom's Bryce Anderson got his first win of the season, striking out five Yellowjacket batters in his 7.2 innings on the mound.
Colby Robison had another solid performance at the plate, finishing 2-4.
Austin Rue went 1-2 and scored two runs on the day.
Kris Kaplan helped Dixie State's cause, going 2-4, scoring one run and batting in two others. The Red Strom had seven hits total compared to MSU Billings' four.
After five scoreless innings, Rue scored the game's first run in the top of the sixth inning, coming home off a
Drew Fosnes sacrifice fly. Dixie State quickly answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs, one unearned.
The Red Storm added another run in the bottom of the seventh to give them the 4-1 lead going into the top of the eighth inning. Rue scored his second run of the day on a fielding error by Dixie State to cut the opposition's lead to two, 4-2. The Red Storm would not be able to counter as they went three up, three down in the bottom of the eighth.
In their last at bat, the Yellowjackets left two on base, and Dixie State went on to claim the 4-2 victory. The Red Storm improve to 8-1 overall on the season.
“We pitched very well today; we had chances offensively but just didn't put enough quality at bat's together with runners on base to get it done,” stated head coach
Rob Bishop. “We have to give Dixie the credit as well. They pitched and played well today.”
MSUB and Dixie State will conclude their series after Sunday's matchup at 12 p.m.
