Baseball: #24 Red Storm Strike Yellowjackets in Double-Header

Billings, Mont. – Montana State Billings baseball team struggled to get their offense going as they lose both games in their double-header to the No. 24 nationally ranked Dixie State College of Utah 8-4, 5-1. The Yellowjackets will need to regroup quickly as both teams square off in their third game of the series Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
 
Game 1: DSC 8 MSUB 4
 
The Yellowjackets led 2-1 going into the bottom of the third before the Red Storm regained the lead, scoring two runs to hold the 3-1 advantage going into the fourth inning. MSUB's offense stalled as Dixie State's continued to thrive, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Entering the final inning the Jackets trailed 8-2. Bryce Todd and Colby Robison crossed for MSUB in the top of the seventh to cut the opposition's lead to four (8-4), but MSUB would not go on to score any more runs as they left two runners on base.
 
Robison finished 2-4 and recorded one run scored. Drew Fosnes also had a solid day at the plate, going 1-3, scoring one run and batting in two. The Yellowjackets finished with eight total hits compared to the Red Storm's 15.
 
Samuel Paterson started for MSUB and tallied three strikeouts in his 4.1 innings on the mound.
 
Dixie State's Jordan Hanley had the best offensive performance, finishing 3-4 with two runs scored. Mike Dedrick got the win for the Red Storm recording a game high six strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.
 
Game 2: DSC 5 MSUB 1
 
The Red Storm carried their momentum into the second matchup, owning a 4-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning. Austin Rue scored the Yellowjackets' first run of the contest, crossing on a Brody Miller single. Dixie State matched MSU Billings' score in the bottom of the inning, as D.J. Andre scored on a Ryan Westcott sacrifice fly.
 
MSUB went three up, three down in their final attempt as Dixie State went ahead to claim the 5-1 victory.
 
The second contest didn't see much offense, as the Red Storm out hit the Yellowjackets 6-4.
 
Miller finished 1-3 with one run batted in. Tanner Watson started on the mound for MSUB and recorded three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
 
The Red Storm's Garrett Nash went 2-3 at the plate with one run batted in; and Sam Friend won his second game of the season, pitching six innings and tallying six strikeouts.
 
Dixie State improves to 7-1 overall while MSU Billings falls to 2-9-1. The Yellowjackets and Red Storm continue their series Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
