FULL RESULTS            LIVE RESULTS             FULL SCHEDULE

NAMPA, Idaho – Montana State University Billings' men's track and field student-athlete, Tanner Rottrup, captured the shot put title for the second straight season at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Friday.

Rottrup had a top mark of 52 feet, 8.75 inches, just shy of his seed mark of 53 feet, five inches. He entered the meet with the best mark in the GNAC. The senior remains the lone Yellowjacket with an individual title at the conference championships. He won the event last year with a top toss of 50 feet, two inches.

Rottrup, a Billings native, edged Saint Martin's Sam Worthington's mark of 52 feet. Rottrup has provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Div. II National Championships, and has the 22nd best mark in the nation.

Jake Swan placed fourth in the shot put, scoring five team points, with a toss of 49 feet, five inches. His mark was a personal record by almost two feet.

In the 3,000 meters, Robert Peterson came in fourth with a time of 8:37.79. The freshman scored five points for the Yellowjackets. MSUB's distance medley relay team of Chase Robinson, Brett Weidler, Drew Galahan, and Clint Choquette also placed fourth with a time of 10:24.15.

On the women's side, Stacey Pitt had a fourth place pole vault finish. The senior cleared 10 feet, 10.25 inches. Leah Berry came in fifth in the pentathlon. The junior totaled 2,922 points, one point more than the previous school record she set this season.

As a team, the MSUB men sit in fourth place after the first day in the team standings. The Yellowjackets totaled 25 points on Day 1, with 10 coming from Rottrup's title. The MSU Billings' women are in seventh place with 10 points.

“We had some great performances today,” Montana State Billings' Head Coach Dave Coppock said. “Obviously, Tanner defending his title was great, but Jake placing fourth was huge for us. Robert ran his race real well, and Leah did well in the pentathlon. Our men's DMR team was kind of the hard luck story of the day as we got off to a great start and we're leading after the first leg, but Brett pulled his hamstring early in his leg, and we dropped a bit. But, Brett and those guys gutted it out and pulled off a fourth place finish. Overall, it was a good day, and we're ready for Day 2.”

The second day of the meet begins with the heptathlon at 8:45 a.m., followed by the first field events the men's weight throw and the women's triple jump at 10 a.m. The women's mile opens the running events at 11:25 a.m. Live results can be found on MSUBSports.com.
