Yellowjackets Blow Past Saints

Box Score

BILLINGS, Mont. –The Montana State University Billings Men's Soccer team was firing on all cylinders Thursday afternoon defeating Saint Martin's University 4-0.

It was a full team effort as four different Yellowjacket players scored. The first came in 24th minute when Thomas Saltwell hit a beautiful long ball to a streaking Kyle Emerick who took one dribble with his right foot, past a Saint defender and then sent the ball past the Saint's goalie, Eric Olsen, into the bottom right of the goal.

The second goal came in 67th minute when Aodhan Browlee took the ball down the left side of the Saint's box, crossed it into the middle where Jesper Fries volleyed the ball into the left side of the net from two yards out. This would be the first of three goals scored in 19 minutes for the Yellowjackets.

The third came in the 75th minute when Brownlee again dribbled the ball down the left side and again hit a majestic cross into the middle of the box where Thorge Jess pounded a volley from one yard out into the upper right of the goal. It was Browlee's second assist of the day.

"We have been trying in training to get the ball wide to the wings and cross the ball to people running up front," Brownlee said. "I am happy for me but I am glad we had four goals to their none."

Then Yoann Le Rouzic joined in the frenzy and scored his first goal of the season after Michael Aringer crossed the ball from the right side of the box and Le Rouzic volleyed the ball from three yards out into the right side of the net.

"Very happy with today's result," head coach Alex Balog said. "Today from minute one to minute ninety they were focused, they were challenged, they worked hard and four zero that also means that you put the chances away and that's something that has been lacking a little bit in the last couple games. Just very very happy."

The Yellowjackets outshot the Saints 13-7 while holding the advantage in corner kicks 7-0.

MSUB goalie Eion Hurley had 2 saves on the day and improves his record to 3-6-3, 3-3-2 Great Northwest Athletic Conference while the Saint's Olsen drops to 1-5-1, 1-4-1 GNAC.

MSUB is now 3-6-3, 3-3-2 GNAC while SMU is 3-8-1, 3-4-1 GNAC

With the win MSUB leapfrogs SMU to take control of fifth place and still maintain a shot at qualifying for the conference tournament. Up next is Seattle Pacific who is unbeaten in conference play and ranked fifth in the region along with 23rd nationally.

"They are a quality team, very well coached; they are composed from back to front," Balog said. "We know how they are going to play, if we are able to create half the chances we created today and put some of those away then we can get a result. They haven't won here in the last two years and we absolutely intend to keep it that way."

The match against Seattle Pacific will be senior day for the two seniors, Chad Ward and Landon Horst. They will be honored before the match. The match is slated to begin at approximately 1:00 PM Saturday. Live stats and video for both games can be found at MSUBSPORTS.COM.
