BILLINGS, Mont.- The Montana State University Billings Men's Soccer team had a dog fight with the University of Northwest Nazarene Crusaders that ended in a 0-0 draw Saturday.
The Jackets outshot the crusaders 18-9 and lead in corner kicks 9-1, but failed to find the goal in the match. Both teams played physical and gritty in a match where there were 38 total fouls. The Jackets are now 2-6-3 overall and 2-3-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play and the Crusaders are 3-3-4 overall and 3-2-2 in GNAC play.
"We played what is arguably our best game of the season, except for putting the ball in the back of the net," Head Coach
Alex Balog said. "Today's game resembled last year's home game against NNU when we completely dominated. It was the same today. In the middle we exploited the man more situation which allowed us to create a load of chances. Unfortunately we weren't able to capitalize on those. That being said, I'm pleased to see that what we do in practice pays off. Next up is SMU and that's another must win game for us."
Thorge Jess lead the way with six shot attempts and four of those were on goal.
Sam Butterworth,
Michael Aringer and
Thomas Saltwell each had one shot on goal.
The Jacket defense shut down the league leading scorer from NNU, GNAC Red Lion Offensive Player of the week in Fredy Razo whose streak of scoring in seven straight matches ended Saturday. He is a prolific offensive player who leads the conference in scoring with eight goals, eighteen points. He only managed two shots both were shots on goal. "We kept it tight in the back and shut down a quality offensive line that consists of a future All American." Balog said of Razo.
Next up for the Jackets is the University of Saint Martin's Saints who MSUB is 7-4-1 all-time against. Stats and live video can be found at MSUBSPORTS.COM
