BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings' Men's Soccer team begins a five game home stand Thursday against the University of Mary and then play the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on Saturday.
MSU Billings (0-6-2, 0-3-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) is still looking for their first win of the season after dropping two hard fought matches to Saint Martins and Seattle Pacific this past weekend.
"After a disappointing trip to the Seattle area, we come back home to face SDSMT and UMary," MSUB Head Coach
Alex Balog said. "Its money time for us right now. If we still want to make something out of this season we need to get results this week."
The Hardrockers have yet to win a match as well (0-7, 0-4 GNAC), but nearly pulled off an upset of Western Washington last weekend.
"SDSMT is very well coached and will be looking for their first win, just like us," Balog said. "We'll need to be smart and play smart in order to do well against them. This will be the second time these two teams face each other with MSUB coming away with the 2-1 win last year at Yellowjacket Field."
The Hardrocker attack will look for Michael McGraw who has three goals on six attempts to lead the attack. Timothy Tribbett will be the goalie for SDSMT and he brings a .724 save percentage to Billings, but has allowed 21 goals thus far this year.
MSUB and SDSMT are set to begin play at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The Marauders of Mary are also searching for their first win (0-6, 0-4 GNAC). The Jackets have won the past 18 meetings against Mary dating back to 2003.
"University of Mary has always been a difficult opponent for us," Balog said. "The games against them have proven to be close and physical. We know how they play and they know how we play. The game will be a big battle and I hope our guys will be up for it."
Jack West will be in between the posts for the Maraduers. He has a .644 save percentage and has allowed 16 goals this season, including a season high six, in a 6-0 loss to No. 1 Simon Fraser this past weekend.
MSUB and UM are set to begin play at 1:30pm on Saturday.
The Jackets' offense will be counting on
Thorge Jess who has two goals on eight shot attempts this season.
Sam Butterworth,
Kyle Emerick,
Haley Klarich and
Chad Ward have scored one goal each this season. Eion Hurley will direct the back line this week; Hurley has 34 total saves and a .708 save percentage on the year.
The Jackets will be looking for a complete team effort on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball and will be excited to play in front of a strong home crowd to help propel them to two wins this week.
