Soccer Programs Receive GNAC Honors and NSCAA Rankings

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Billings, Mont. – This past week the men's and women's soccer programs had great performances en route to earning several Great Northwest Athletic Conference weekly Awards. Women's soccer received three weekly awards and men's soccer brought home one award.
 
The women's soccer team received the GNAC Team-of-the-Week award with two home shutout victories including one over nationally ranked (No.5) Colorado School of Mines. MSUB defeated the Orediggers 1-0 on Friday, Aug. 31 and then defeated Northern State University 3-0 Saturday, Sept. 1 completing the weekend sweep and winning the MSUB Cup for the third straight year. In the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire regional rankings (Sept. 4) the Yellowjackets come in at No. 7 in the west region.

Chelsea Shuman scored the game winning goal against Colorado Mines and earned the Red Lion GNAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week.
 
“Chelsea had an amazing game in the middle and scored a beautiful goal from 25 yards out," stated second year head women's soccer coach Wojtek Krakowiak.
 
Jennifer Larsen earned the Red Lion GNAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week award with her key play in the 1-0 shutout of Colorado Mines Friday.  Larsen also scored two goals in a 3-0 shutout win over Northern State on Saturday.
 
“Jennifer was very solid in the back and won a lot of headers,” Krakowiak said.
 
The men's soccer program also put together a pair of great performances this past week. On their Hawaiian road trip they defeated Chaminade University 2-1 on Thursday, Aug. 30 and then defeated Hawaii Pacific University 3-2 on Sept. 1. In the Sept. 4 NSCAA/Continental Tire regional rankings the men's program landed the No. 9 spot in the west region.

Legofi Crawford had fantastic offensive performances in each match and earned honorable mention honors for the Red Lion GNAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Against Chaminade Crawford came off the bench to score the team's first goal in a 2-1 win. He then had two goals total, including the game-winner, and an assist in a 3-2 win at Hawaii Pacific. For the entire weekend, Crawford scored seven points.
 
“LC made an excellent start to his Yellowjacket career,” stated eighth year head men's soccer coach Dan McNally. “He is working really hard for the team and is constantly improving.”
 
The women's team next game is on the road at Dixie State College of Utah on Thursday, Sept. 6 and the men wrap up their Hawaiian road trip with a bout against the University of Hawaii-Hilo Tuesday, Sept. 12:00 p.m. (Hawaiian time).
