DENVER, Colo. – The Montana State University Billings tennis squads wrapped up their 2012 spring regular season schedule with four matches over three days. The men's team went 3-1 that included ending the season on a three-game winning streak while the women suffered a 0-4 set-back in Colorado.
The Yellowjacket men end the regular season 5-8 overall and 4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference which leaves them third in the league while the women ended the year 2-14 and 0-6 in the league.
The 4-2 mark in the RMAC means the men will be the third seed at next week's RMAC championships to be held in Denver.
MSUB's men kicked off the weekend with a 2-7 loss to No. 42 Western New Mexico University on Thursday, April 12. They then bounced back with the trio of wins over Colorado State University – Pueblo (7-2), Colorado Mesa University (7-2) and No. 41 Metro State of Denver (5-4).
Alonso Leon posted four wins to lead the Yellowjackets at No. 2 singles and was MSUB's lone singles' win in Thursday's match against Western New Mexico. Leon also combined with No. 1 doubles partner
Navin Marimuthu to go 4-0 for the weekend.
Marimuthu and
Kavindu Gamage both posted 3-1 records at No. 3 and No. 5 singles over the three-day stretch.
The Yellowjacket women were unable to get much going in their favor as they fell 0-9 to Western New Mexico on Thursday, 3-6 to Colorado State – Pueblo and 0-9 to Colorado Mesa on Friday. They ended their time in Colorado with a 0-9 loss to Metro State earlier today.
Laura Housinger and Kendall Rochin earned the Yellowjacket women's only two wins in singles competition against Pueblo while Housinger and doubles partner
Emily Paffhausen claimed the win at No. 1 doubles against Pueblo.
