BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings men's and women's golf teams wrapped up their MSUB Yellowjackets Spring Invitational held at Pryor Creek Golf Course Friday afternoon and the women continued with another strong showing led by senior
Kalli Stanhope who claimed the women's individual crown.

“This was a great start to our spring, especially for our women,” stated head golf coach Shawn O'Brien. “We struck the ball well and took advantage of a few holes which helped scoring. This tournament showcased the depth of our team and anytime we can finish first and second with the medalist being from our team is a great day.

“For our men, some of them played very well today and took advantage of a few holes that were giving others issues,” O'Brien continued. “I am looking forward to next weekend as we have a great, young team who should play much better after this experience.”

The women's “A” squad finished first just eight strokes ahead of their counterparts on the “B” squad while Rocky Mountain College's men's squad over-came a two-stroke deficit from the first day to top MSUB's men by five strokes.

RMC's Daniel Thompsett was the overall men's medalist with a score of 147.
Eric Gravbrot and
Marcus Drange were the top finishers for the Yellowjacket men with the two posting similar 149 stroke-counts to sit tied for fourth at the end of the two rounds.

Melissa Saken finished second with a score of157.

Three men and one woman posted scores equal to or less than the course's posted par, all four scores were met or bettered on the second day.

The men's division was designed as a par 72 with a yardage of 6981 while the women's course was a par 73 with 5905 yardage.

“I would really like to thank everybody at Pryor Creek for making this tournament the success it was,” said O'Brien. “We could not put this tournament on without them while we participated in 'Putt for a Cure' this weekend which is a great endeavor. I also want to thank everyone at St. Vincent Healthcare and Frontier Cancer Center.”
