BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Montana State University Billings' women's golf team finished just outside the top 10 at the Western Washington University Invitational in 11th place.
The Yellowjackets ended the tournament with a 680, after shooting a 337 in the second round. Tuesday's total was six strokes better than the first round total.
Cayley Fish and
Mariah Cleveland finished tied in 39th place with 165 totals. All five MSUB golfers shot over 80 in the second round. Cleveland had a day two best, 81. MSU Billings made 12 birdies as a team, and 66 pars.
Hawaii-Hilo entered the second round in second place, but made the jump to first place with a tournament best 299 round Tuesday. Hawaii-Hilo finished six strokes ahead of British Columbia. UBC shot 307 in both the first and second round. No. 8 Tarleton State came in third with a final total of 616, one stroke better than Grand Canyon in fourth place.
British Columbia's Casara Hong took the individual title after shooting a 72 in the second round. She finished the tournament with a 147, two strokes ahead of Hawaii-Hilo's Kacie Harada. Grand Canyon's Kelcey Tate led the field after the first day, but shot six-over-par in the second round to finish fourth.
The Yellowjackets return home and face Rocky Mountain College in a match-play tournament. It will be the final tournament of the fall season for the MSU Billings' women's team. Play begins Friday at the Yegen Golf Course.
