Billings, Mont. – Montana State Billings men's soccer team had one of the best outings of the year this afternoon. Playing their rematch game versus the University of Mary, the Yellowjackets set several records as they defeated the Marauders 5-1.

Saturday's contest was dominated by MSUB, they outshot their opponent 18 – 8 and landed more shots on target (10 – 5). As eighth year head coach Dan McNally led the Jackets to their 10th victory of 2012, he earned his 70th career win and the team and several players etched their names in the MSUB record books.

The team had a total of 15 points, which is tied for the seventh best point output in single game. MSUB's five goals is tied for the fifth best single game goal output and their five assists is tied for the third best single game assists output.

Senior midfielder Thomas Chameraud recorded four assists which is the most assists recorded by a men's player in a single contest for MSUB soccer.

Sophomore midfielder Kyle Emerick scored a hat trick on the day and his three goals is tied for the second most goals by a player in a game. It's the first hat trick posted since Garion Holian recorded one Sept. 10, 2011 versus Colorado Christian.

The Yellowjacket offense was extremely efficient in Saturday's match scoring their first goal at 2:13. Chameraud sent a nice pass through defenders to Legofi Crawford and Crawford beat the keeper, knocking the shot in to the right side of the net. MSUB took the early 1-0 lead on Crawford's fourth score of the season and did not look back.

Conner Moe, Matt Brink, Cameron Lee and Sam Butterworth had another great performance on the backline as they neutralized the Marauders attack attempts and kept the offense in constant rhythm all afternoon.

From the fifth to the 40th minute, the Yellowjackets took seven shots compared to University of Mary's two attempts. Four of MSUB's attempts were on target but saved by the Marauder's Michael Frenzel. Both of Mary's attempts were on target but a Yellowjacket defender made a team save on one and Eoin Hurley stopped the other attempt.

MSUB's attack found success in the 43rd minute as Emerick received a pass from Chameraud and dribbled by his defender hitting the shot in the bottom right of the goal. The Yellowjackets entered the break ahead 2-0.

Despite holding a firm hold on the game, MSUB did not halt their attack as Emerick scored his second goal of the match at 56:25. Chameraud sent a cross to the right side of the net and Emerick sprinted to chip in the shot from 2 yards out increasing the Yellowjackets' lead to 3-0.

On MSUB's next score, Chameraud and Emerick would switch roles. At 59:09 Chameraud received the pass from Emerick and he blasted a shot from 12 yards out that deflected off the goal keeper's hand to land in the back of the net. The score marked his fifth goal of 2012.

Now with the score at 4-0, the match was out of reach for the Marauders. University of Mary kept competing however and scored a goal in the 83rd minute of play. Robin Wettach-Glosser hit a header attempt over the top of Hurley to give the Marauders their first score of the day, bringing the score to 4-1.

As the match was coming to a close Emerick shot a rocket at 89:45 from 25 yards out that bent to land in the top right corner of the net, putting the score at 5-1 and completing hat trick.

The Marauders took one final shot on goal attempt that was saved by Logan Deeney and MSUB went on to claim the victory.

“We played great today,” stated McNally. “That's 10 wins and we know if we win our last two games next week we can be in the mix for regionals. Emerick played really well today scoring three goals and I was pleased for him. Chameraud was the best player on the field by a mile; he was in a different class.”

Hurley finished with two saves on the day.

Now 10-4-2 overall and 6-4-2 in the GNAC, the Yellowjackets' next match will be home on Thursday, Nov. 1 against the University of Sioux Falls at 3:30 p.m.
