Men’s Soccer Faces No. 3 Team in Nation in Annual Futbol Frenzy

McNally Futbol Frenzy Interview

Billings, Mont. – The Montana State Billings men's soccer team is the midst of their final games of the regular season schedule in which they have a stretch of six home games. One of the highlighted events is the 11th Annual Futbol Frenzy on Saturday Oct. 20. The Yellowjacket men will be the first game in a double-header event against Simon Fraser University.

MSUB currently sits at 8-4-1 overall and 5-4-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. While being in the thick of the pack in the conference, every game becomes vital as the Jackets only have four conference games left. In their matchup against Western Washington, the Yellowjackets captured the 2-1 overtime victory with a great game winning goal by senior forward Thomas Sheets.

From 30 yards out Sheets blasted a shot in the air that was seemingly headed over the goal, but surprisingly made a slight bend to find its way in the upper right corner of the net. He now has four goals on the season.

Senior defender and co-captain Conner Moe had the other score for MSUB, scoring his first goal of the season on a penalty kick.

As the Yellowjackets continue their final slate of games in their regular season schedule, they will face a huge test in the 11th Annual Futbol Frenzy. The Futbol Frenzy is an annual double-header event that the MSUB men's and women's soccer programs host each year.

With this event MSUB thanks the local community for the support of the program as well as recognize and celebrate the continued growth of Yellowjackets' soccer. The facilities continue to improve each year, and that is a testament to the fundraising efforts by head coaches Dan McNally and Wojtek Krakowiak.

Wendy's will be sponsoring the Futbol Frenzy and providing free chili to Yellowjackets' fans that attend the matches.

The men's teams will be kicking the event off at 1:00 p.m. followed by the women's game at 3:30 p.m. Simon Fraser is a very good soccer program and they are having a great season thus far. Currently at 13-1 overall and 9-1 in the GNAC the Clan is nationally ranked No. 3 and regionally ranked No.1 in the west region. Simon Fraser is also first in the conference standings.

In their first meeting MSUB was edged by the Clan 2-0. To reverse this outcome on Saturday the Jackets will need to put together a great defensive effort. Simon Fraser has six players with at least five goals on the season. Carlo Basso leads the team with 11 scores.

MSUB will also need to capitalize on their attack opportunities; the Clan has only allowed 11 scores on the year.

The Yellowjackets have the talent and experience to upset their nationally ranked counterpart. They also have great team chemistry, one that McNally feels is one of the better cohesive teams he has had in his tenure.

Thomas Chameraud leads the team with 12 points, scoring three goals and recording six assists. Sheets is second in points with 11, leading the team with four goals and dishing three assists.

The defense has been consistently solid this season, helping attribute for 49 total saves. Sophomore goal keeper Eoin Hurley has recorded three shutouts on the year.

MSUB fans are strongly encouraged to join us on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Yellowjacket Field to have some free chili and cheer on the men's and women's soccer teams. The Futbol Frenzy starts at 1 p.m.
