BILLINGS, Mont. -- Three second half goals by Simon Fraser were the difference Thursday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field as the Clan defeated the Montana State University Billings men's soccer team 4-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
With the loss the Yellowjackets fall to 2-5-0 on the season and are now 0-3-0 in the conference, while the Clan improved to 6-0-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in the conference.
The Yellowjackets looked strong in the first half, but a penalty in the box by the Jackets allowed Josh Bennett to convert on his second goal of the season and the Clan to take a 1-0 lead.
Freshman
Kyle Emerick would level the score in the 64
th minute as he took the deflection off a
Thomas Sheets shot and put in the rebound, sneaking it just inside the left post. The goal was Emerick's third of the season.
The Clan got the game-winner 15 minutes later in the 79th minute as Farhad Abdulgani sent a through ball into the left side of the 18 where he found Chris Bargholz who had just checked in. Barholz took his shot from 13 yards out and put by the lower right post.
Bargholz struck again in the 83
rd minute when he took a feed from Lucas Ferritto and beat keeper
Eoin Hurley to the left post.
The Yellowjackets had a couple of late opportunities that went to the wayside, while the Clan put away their fourth goal in the 87th minute as Carlo Basso scored his fourth goal of the year on a low cross from Ferritto where he tapped in the ball.
MSUB had six shots in the match, two finding their way on goal, while the Clan registered 13 total shots and nine on goal.
The Yellowjackets will now host Western Washington University on Saturday at Yellowjacket Field with kick-off scheduled for 4 p.m.
