Jackets Close Indoor Track and Field Season at GNAC Championships

Day 1 Results
Day 2 Results

NAMPA, Idaho.
– The 2011 indoor track and field season came to a close for the Montana State Billings men's and women's track and field teams Saturday afternoon in Nampa, Idaho at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.

The Yellowjackets had one of their best indoor championship meets this weekend, scoring one their highest team point totals in school history.

MSUB had four events that proved to be the highlight of the meet for the young and surging program.

Anica Knispel performed very well in her first GNAC Championship, placing third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.27 meter (50'-01.25”) and fifth in the shot put with a best throw of 12.60 meters (41'-04.25”).

Whitney Mickelsen, who came into the meet as one of the hottest runners in the mile race, placed fifth in the event with a finishing time of 5:17.16. There was some confusion in the event though, as the runner passed through with two laps remaining, the bell was run to signal the final lap. After things were sorted out, Mickelsen received her placing in the event.

Rounding out the top performers for MSUB was Brock Steingruber in the heptathlon. Steingruber competed in seven events throughout the two-day event. He won the high jump event with a clearance of 1.90 meters (6'-02.75”) and finished second in the long jump and pole vault. His total points placed him fifth in the event.

The Yellowjackets will now turn their attention to the outdoor season where the Jackets will have their first competition of the season at the UNLV Invite in Las Vegas on March 5.
