BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Montana State Billings men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to six matches after the Yellowjackets were victorious Thursday evening with a 3-1 decision over Western Washington at Orca Field in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.

The Yellowjackets improved to 6-7-2 on the season and are 2-4-2 in the conference after the win. With the loss the Vikings fell to 5-7-0 on the year and 3-3-0 in the league.

“Tonight was an excellent win for us,” said head coach Dan McNally. “For the first time this season we had all of our players available to play and that made a huge difference. I thought we really deserved to win the match and having all three of our senior starters healthy really showed. We scored three great goals and looked comfortable throughout the match. I'm really proud of the guys and the character they've shown throughout this unbeaten streak and how they've worked hard throughout this season.”

The Yellowjackets got on the board first when Garion Holian broke down his defender and fed the ball to an open Thomas Sheets who then found Tyler Moriarty for the easy shot into the lower left. The goal was Moriarty's first of the season, while Holian and Sheets both collected their second assists of the year.

Western tied the game in the 26th minute when Sean Conner took a free kick from 23 yards out and beat MSUB keeper Eoin Hurley for his first goal of the season.

The game-winner for the Yellowjackets came in the 61st minute when Haakon Taylor took advantage of a Viking turnover, shooting from 12 yards out and into the left side of the net for his second goal of the season.

MSUB's final goal came midway through the 84th minute when Sheets drilled a shot from 15 yards out and beat Keegan Rogers for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

WWU held the overall shot advantage at 13-10, but the Jackets forced six shots on goal versus the four by the Vikings. WWU also held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks during the match.

The freshman Hurley evened his record on the year at 5-5-2, while Rogers dropped to 4-4-0 on the season. Hurley made three saves in the match with Rogers matching his three saves, but allowing the three goals.

The Yellowjackets will now travel north of the border for a Saturday showdown with No.1 Simon Fraser University at 12 p.m. The game can be seen via webcast on the Simon Fraser webpage.
