Yellowjackets Look to Stay Hot with Big Road Wins

BILLINGS, Mont. -- Unbeaten in their last five matches and coming off a pair of draws with then No.17 Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin's University last week, the Montana State Billings men's soccer squad embarks on three game road trip beginning this week at Western Washington and Simon Fraser.

The Yellowjackets are now 5-7-2 overall and are 1-2-2 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference after a 0-0 draw with SPU and a 2-2 draw with the Saints.

The return of senior Garion Holian to the starting lineup has sparked the Yellowjackets who have scored eight goals during this unbeaten streak, while scoring just 10 goals in the nine games prior to the streak.

Holian is tied for the team lead in goals with Thomas Sheets at five goals apiece. Thomas Chameraud is the team leader in assists with four on the year.

The Yellowjackets have scored 18 goals this season as a team, ranking third in the conference in the category. In contrast they have allowed 27 goals on the year, allowing opponents to outshoot the Jackets 181-158 in total shots, but just 78-74 in shots in goal.

Keeper Eoin Hurley has played some of his best games of the season recently, recording 35 saves this season and a 1.67 goals against average and a .648 saves percentage. Hurley has two shutouts this season.

Western Washington currently sits at 5-6-0 on the year and 3-2-0 in the conference. They won one of three games against Pacific West Conference opponents on a six-day junket to Phoenix, Arizona, and St. George, Utah. WWU defeated Dixie State, 2-1, following losses to nationally No.16-ranked Grand Canyon, 2-1, and Cal Baptist, 1-0.

Simon Fraser enters the week as the No.1 team in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll. The Clan is a perfect 12-0-0 on the year and is seeking their second consecutive GNAC title with a 5-0-0 record to this point.

The Yellowjackets and Vikings will play in a nightcap at 7 p.m. Thursday evening, while the Jackets and Clan will kick-off at 12 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
