BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Montana State Billings men's soccer squad pulled off a very hard-fought 0-0 draw with nationally ranked Seattle Pacific Thursday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action, remaining unbeaten in their last four matches.
“Today was a really good result for us” said head coach Dan McNally. “We defended really well. I thought
Eoin Hurley had a great game in goal for us; his best game of the season. Connor Moe and
Isaac Kerr were outstanding along the back line, and the whole team played with a lot of concentration. Although SPU had a lot of shots, we gave them very little opportunities for great shots. I think our team is playing really well and gaining a lot of confidence. Now we have to take that momentum into Saturday's match with St. Martin's.”
The Yellowjackets pulled their record to 5-7-1 on the year and are now 1-4-1 in the conference. SPU, ranked 17
th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll, saw their record move to 8-2-2 on the season and 3-1-1 in league play.
MSUB saw a golden chance early in the match when
Thomas Sheets made a move to beat a defender, but his shot sailed just wide of the target. That shot was MSUB's lone shot on goal the entire afternoon.
The Falcons applied little pressure in the first half, but put an onslaught of shots toward Hurley and the Yellowjacket goal, registering 10 shots in the second half.
Hurley's best save came in the second overtime period when the Falcons had a wide open net, but diving to his right with outstretched arms, Hurley made the initial save and another on the rebound.
The Yellowjackets were outshot 22-7 in total shots and 6-1 in shots on goal. Hurley came up with all six saves in the match to earn his second shutout of the season and move his record to 4-5-1 on the year.
MSUB will now host Saint Martin's University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Yellowjacket Field. The match can be seen on webcast and live stats at msubsports.com.
