Box Score

PUEBLO, Colo. – Montana State Billings used a second half explosion for three goals en route to a 4-2 neutral site victory Monday afternoon over Adams State College.  With the win, the Yellowjackets improved to 3-0-1 on the year, while the Grizzlies fell to 0-3. MSUB senior captain, Chris Andre (Billings, MT, Senior HS), scored a goal and tallied his 19th career assist, breaking the school's assist record he held with former Yellowjacket standout Sam Charles.

“It's difficult to win on the road,” MSUB head coach Dan McNally said.  “I was very proud of the effort the guys put in today.  In the second half, we played some great attacking soccer.”

The Yellowjackets jumped out to a fast start in the early going with seven shots in the first 22 minutes.  Andre led the way during that span with three shots, while juniors Garion Holian (Missoula, MT, Hellgate HS) and Peter Davies (London, England, Foothill College) each had two.  Grizzly goalkeeper, Dillon Lee, came up with two saves early on to keep a scoreless game.

Keep shooting and good things will happen. That is exactly how it went for the Jackets as freshman Tyler Currence (Billings, MT, Creighton University) scored his second goal in as many games at the 23:11 mark.  Currence's score came from the top of the box shot over Lee's head into the right corner of the net with an assist from Andre for a 1-0 lead.  It was Andre's first assist of the season and the record-breaker.

“I am very pleased for Chris Andre, he had a great game today and has been our most consistent midfield player over the last four seasons,” McNally said.  “He deserves all of the recognition he gets.”

The game stayed 1-0 through the rest of the half.  MSUB outshot Adams State 13-6 and 5-1 in shots on goal.  Andre, Holian and sophomore Thomas Sheets (Everett, WA, Edmonds Community College) led the way with three shots each, while Davies had two shots.  Currence and Stevenson each had one.

In goal, MSUB goalkeeper, senior Matt Mitchell (Thornton, CO, Northglenn HS) had one save, while Lee had four saves for Adams State in the opening half.

The Grizzlies got on the board in the second half as they scored on an own goal at the 48:20 mark to tie the game.

The Yellowjackets regained the lead as Andre took a pass from Peter Davies for a score and a 2-1 lead at the 61:35 mark.  It was the second goal in as many games for Andre and second assist of the year for Davies.

Through the first 25 minutes of the second half, the Yellowjackets added nine more shots and four more on goal, while ASC fired two shots and had three on goal.

MSUB went up 3-1 at the 76:59 mark on a great shot from Sheets for his second score of the year as he beat the goalkeeper to the left-hand side of the net.  It was Davies' second assist of the game and his team-leading third of the season.

Less than two minutes later, ASC cut into the deficit with a score from Chris Roggow as he took a pass from Joseph Jallow and beat Mitchell to the left for a 3-2 score at the 78:03 mark.

MSUB sophomore, Cory Champney (Billings, MT, Skyview HS), took a pass from Sheets and was wide open for a score in front of the net for the insurance goal at the 86:05 mark.  It was Champney's first collegiate goal for a 4-2 score.

For the game, the Yellowjackets were led by seven shots from Sheets, while Andre, Holian and Davies each had five.  Andre led the way with the record-breaking assist and the game winning goal.  As a team, the Jackets tallied a season-high 29 shots and a season-high 13 shots on goal.  Mitchell made five saves between the posts.

The Grizzlies were led by three shots from Roggow as he had the only goal recorded by ASC as the other was an own goal.  Lee made eight saves in goal and the Grizzlies also had a team save.  As a team, the Grizzlies had 11 shots with seven on goal.
