BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings men's soccer team returns to the road this week with a pair of matches in Pueblo, Colo. The Yellowjackets are scheduled to battle Adams State College in a neutral site matchup Monday at 2:30 p.m., and then face Colorado State-Pueblo Wednesday at 7 p.m.
MSUB (2-0-1) is led this season offensively by four players who have each scored goals. Senior Chris Andre tallied the game winner on his first career penalty kick in the second half of a 2-1 victory over Colorado Christian Sept. 10. Freshman Tyler Currence tallied his first goal as a Yellowjacket against the Cougars Friday. Junior transfer Peter Davies recorded his first assist on Currence's goal.
Andre leads the team with 13 shots and five on goal. Junior Garion Holian scored the game winner from 25-yards out in a neutral site 1-0 victory over Dixie State last week. Sophomore Thomas Sheets scored the equalizing goal in a 1-1 tie at Grand Canyon in both team's season openers Sept. 4. Sheets was rewarded this past Monday for his efforts against GCU being named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Sophomore Blair Stevenson also had his first assist of his collegiate career on Sheets' goal.
In goal, senior Matt Mitchell has played all 290 minutes and carries a 0.62 goals against average into this week's action. He has 12 saves with two goals allowed for a .857 save percentage and a 2-0-1 record with one shutout. Mitchell stopped a key penalty kick in the first half of the Dixie State (Sept. 6) game to preserve a scoreless tie in the half as MSUB eventually won 1-0 late in the contest. It was Mitchell's first saved penalty kick of his career.
As a team, the Jackets have scored four goals with two assists. MSUB has 43 shots with 22 on goal for a .093 shot percentage and a .512 shots on goal percentage. Conversely, the opponents have scored two goals with one assist, along with 29 shots and 14 on goal for a .069 shooting percentage and a .483 shots on goal percentage.
Adams State College enters the neutral site match with a 0-2 record in a pair of losses to Eastern New Mexico (6-0) and Mesa State (4-1). Hawken Hanna leads the team with the lone goal for the Grizzlies. Chris Roggow leads the team with five shots. The Grizzlies have 20 shots for the year with seven on goal.
In goal, Dillon Lee and Paul Pizza have split time between the posts. Lee is 0-1 in one start as he allowed two goals with two saves. Pizza also is 0-1 and has played a team-high 135 minutes in two games. He has allowed eight goals and has eight saves.

Colorado State-Pueblo is 0-2 on the year with a neutral site matchup with Northeastern State scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 12, in Wichita Falls, Texas. The ThunderWolves have not scored a goal in their previous two matches, being outscored 7-0.
The ThunderWolves have fired just six shots in two games and have allowed 49 shots and 23 shots on goal. CSU-Pueblo has four shots on goal for a .667 average. Jordon Hanson leads the team with two shots on goal.
Between the posts, Jacob Blum has played and started both games allowing seven goals and stopping 12 shots for a 3.94 goals against average. Patrick Markis has seen 20 minutes of action with four saves.
CSU-Pueblo leads the all-time series with MSUB 5-0-1. The ThunderWolves lead 3-0-1 in Pueblo and 2-0 in Billings. The ThunderWolves won a heartbreaking, 2-1 double-overtime victory, Sept. 10, 2009, in Billings. The teams each scored first half goals and then in the 105th minute Erik Anderson scored unassisted off a throw in serve into the six for the game winner. The Jackets have scored just three goals in six meetings with CSU-Pueblo and have allowed 20.
The last three matches with the ThunderWolves have gone into overtime and MSUB is 0-2-1 in those three.
