BILLINGS, Mont. – Seven different Montana State Billings men's soccer players scored goals in the annual Alumni Game Saturday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field. MSUB blanked the Alumni team 7-0 in its final tune-up before the regular season begins Sept. 4.
“We played well in the first half and we improved from last week's game versus Rocky,” MSUB head coach Dan McNally said. “We still have a lot to work on before next week's game at Grand Canyon.”
The 2010 Alumni team featured players from as far back as 1997 and the team got off to a quick start as Jarred Weisen (2006-2009) fired a ball that hit the post moments into the contest.
The Yellowjackets weathered the shot and gained momentum as freshman Tyler Currence (Billings, MT, Creighton University) blasted a shot to the upper right corner from the left side about 18 yards out for the first goal of the game. Junior Garion Holian (Missoula, MT, Hellgate HS) scored the second goal of the half and Kyle Moriarty ( Bozeman, MT, Bozeman HS) added the third for a 3-0 lead at intermission.
Three of the four second half goals came from freshmen as Justin Enger (Billings, MT, West HS) scored the fourth goal of the game and first of the half. Thomas Sheets (Everett, WA, Edmonds Community College) followed with his second goal of the preseason and Nick Knowlman (Brisbane, Australia, Brisbane Boy's College) scored for a 6-0 lead. Sophomore Clifton Thomas (Boise, ID, Timberline HS) then added the seventh and final goal.
MSUB tallied eight shots on goal to just one for the alumni.
The 2010 Alumni Team consisted of: Dylan Malloy (2005-2008), Billy Dess (1999-2004), Kevin Grealish (1997-2001), Zach Yeager (2008-2010), Jarred Weisen (2006-2009), Jeremy DeHerrera (2006-2009), Justin Hoskins (2006-2008), Dylan Barnard (2006-2008), Jurell Linford (2005-2008), Brian Huskey (2005-2008) and Kevin Petritz (2001-2004).
MSUB opens the regular season a week from today (Sept. 4) at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz. The Jackets then play a neutral site contest versus Dixie State at Grand Canyon (Sept. 6), before returning home for the home opener Fri., Sept. 10, versus Colorado Christian at 4 p.m., at Yellowjacket Field.
