BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings men's soccer team returns to the road for its final road swing of the season beginning Saturday at Northwest Nazarene at 3 p.m. The Yellowjackets enter the match with a 5-4-1 record overall and a 1-3 mark in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. NNU enters with a 4-4 record and a 1-3 mark in conference play.
The Yellowjackets are led by senior, captain, Chris Andre, who leads the team with six goals, three assists and 15 points. Sophomore Thomas Sheets is second on the team in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven points. Junior Peter Davies also has three assists on the year.
Andre leads the team with 36 shots and 19 on goal and has two game winners and two converted penalty kicks. He ranks first in the league in shots, second in points, second in goals and is tied for second in assists. Andre also is tied for first in game winners.
As a team, the Yellowajackets have scored 15 goals with 11 assists for 41 points. They have 146 shots (.103) and 72 on goal (.493) with five game winners and two converted penalty kicks. Conversely, the opponents also have scored 15 goals with 10 assist for 40 points. The opponents have 126 shots (.119) with 62 on goal (.492), four game winners and are 1-2 in penalty kicks.
Between the posts, the Yellowjackets are led by senior Matt Mitchell who has played all 920 minutes thus far. He has a 1.47 goals against average with 46 saves (.754) and two shutouts. He is 5-4-1 on the year and has allowed 15 goals.
The Crusaders enter the match on a three-game skid after beginning the season winning four of five. NNU is led by John DiLulo and John Stump who each have four goals and one assist for nine points. Salvador Sanchez is third with three goals and one assist, while Alex Mangeac leads the team and the conference with five assists on the year. He is sixth nationally in assists per game.
As a team, the Crusaders have scored 17 goals on the year with 13 assists for 47 points. They have fired 102 shots for a .167 average with three game winners and are 1-1 in penalty kicks. The opponents have scored 18 goals with seven assist for 43 points. They have 117 shots for a .154 average with four game winners and are 3-3 in penalty kicks.
In goal, Mitchell Rice leads the way playing in all eight games with five starts. He is 4-3 on the year with one shutout in 710:45 minutes. Rice has a 2.03 goals against average with 42 saves for a .724 average.
MSUB leads the all-time series 6-4-1 and owns a 4-3 record in Nampa. MSUB won a 3-0 decision in Nampa last season and tied 2-2 in Billings. The Jackets and the Crusaders are all square in Billings at 1-1-1, while MSUB leads in neutral site contests 1-0. Last season's win was snapped a 0-2-1 skid for the Jackets dating back to 2008. Prior to that, MSUB had won five of six.
MSUB continues on the road as it plays a non-conference match at the University of Mary Wed., Oct. 13. After eight days off, the Jackets then travel to Saint Martin's and Seattle Pacific (Oct. 21 & Oct. 23), before returning home for the final four regular season home games beginning Oct. 28 versus Western Washington.
