BILLINGS, Mont. – Two goals by visiting Simon Fraser University proved to be the difference as SFU downed host Montana State Billings Saturday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field.  With the loss, the Yellowjackets fell to 7-8-1 on the year and 2-7 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  League-leading Simon Fraser improved to a perfect 16-0 and 8-0 in conference play.

“I was very proud of the guys today,” MSUB head coach Dan McNally said.  “Simon Fraser has an excellent team, and I thought we played well enough to make it an even game.  The game came down to the fact they (SFU) didn't make mistakes defensively and we did at crucial times.  We have a young team and they are learning some hard lessons this season, but they are working extremely hard for each other and that is a positive sign.”

In what was a pretty even contest, SFU led the way with 12 shots and eight on goal, while the Yellowjackets tallied 10 shots and three on goal.  Both teams had three corner kicks, while MSUB goalkeeper, Matt Mitchell, made a game-high six saves.

The first half was very even as both teams played very hard.  The Clan received a penalty kick at the 25:33 mark as Roman Doutkevitch took the penalty kick, putting it past Mitchell for a 1-0 lead.  It was Doutkevitch's fourth goal of the year.

The game remained 1-0 at halftime.  Simon Fraser, ranked No. 1 in the latest NAIA national poll, held a slim 5-4 lead in shots in the first half.  Mitchell made three first half saves, while SFU goalkeeper, Hide Ozawa, made one.

SFU is transitioning to NCAA Division II, and is the newest member of the GNAC.  The Clan cannot participate in the NCAA Tournament this season, but still will compete in the NAIA tournament this season.

In the second half, the Yellowjackets continued to get shots, but a majority of them went high or wide.  SFU's Josh Bennett scored his fifth goal of the season and the insurance score as he fired a shot from the near post and perfectly placed it in the upper corner for a 2-0 lead.

For the game, the Jackets were led by five shots from sophomore Thomas Sheets.  He had one shot on goal, while senior Chris Andre had two shots.  Bennett led the way for SFU off the bench with four shots and three on goal and the score.

The Yellowjackets continue their final home stand of the season as they host Rocky Mountain College Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Yellowjacket Field and then will close out the regular season Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. versus Northwest Nazarene for Senior Day.
