BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Montana State University Billings track & field teams saw it's three multi-event competitors wrap up competition at the GNAC Combined Event Championships, which took place in Bellingham, Washington over the past two days.
As the dust settled following the conclusion of events Tuesday, the Yellowjacket's
Hannah Cooper would break the school record in the heptathlon for the second time this season, finishing the meet with a score of 4,003. The total broke the previous record score of 3,797 she set earlier this season at the Fighting Saints Open, and would rank Cooper seventh place overall at the GNAC Championships. Cooper took first place in two of the seven events she competed in, winnings the shot put with a mark of 10.95m (35' 11.25"), before winning and setting a PR in the javelin with a throw of 38.66m (126' 10"). Cooper would finish in fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m (5' 1"), while setting PRs in the long jump with a leap of 4.92m (16' 1.75"), the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.27, the 200m with a time of 29.22, and the 800m with a time of 2:51.43.
Behind her,
Kyanna Jarvis would tie for a tenth-place finish in the heptathlon at the meet with a PR score of 3,571. Jarvis would earn her best overall finish in the high jump, where she would place sixth after clearing 1.52m (4' 11.75"). Jarvis would PR in the 200m with a time of 28.47, the javelin with a throw of 28.37m (93' 1"), and the shot put with a throw of 7.22m (23' 8.25").
On the men's side, MSUB's lone competitor
Ryan Fenley would finish in sixth place overall in the decathlon, finishing with a total score of 5,161. The current MSUB school record holder in the event, Fenley would earn his top finishes in the discus and javelin, setting PRs in both events. His discus throw of 32.07m (105' 2") would rank second overall in the event, while his javelin mark of 46.38m (152' 2") was third best in the meet. Fenley's next best placements would be sixth place finishes in both the shot put with a mark of 9.51m (31' 2.5") and the 1500m with a time of 4:56.53.
THE BUZZ: Cooper and Fenley were named the Intermountain Health Athletes of the Meet.
