BOISE, Idaho – The Montana State University Billings track and field programs competed in their final meet before the GNAC Championships Friday, taking part in the Ed Jacoby Twilight hosted by Boise State University.
Looking to round into form before jumping into conference championship action, the Yellowjackets would see a number of athletes putting up quality marks in their last tune up meet, including a handful of season and personal best marks.
In the men's sprints,
JayCee Herbert would continue his excellent season with a pair of top finishes. The sophomore would take second place in the 100m with a time of 11.10, before taking third place in the 200m with a PR time of 21.92. Behind him,
Mason Dezember would be the 'Jackets next top finisher in both events, finishing with a time of 11.29 for 11
th place in the 100m, and 22.41 for seventh in the 200m. Herbert and Dezember would be joined by
Ryen Sanders and Ben Ralston with a season best run on the 4x100m relay squad, with the foursome running a time of 41.86.
Pushing further down the results to the distance events,
Lennon Davis would set a PR in the 800m with a mark of 1:59.37, ranking in 16
th, while Jon Stene would PR in the 1500m with a time of 4:36.27, finishing in 33
rd.
Wyatt May would set a season best in the 3000m steeplechase, running a time of 10:02.22 to finish in third place. Likewise running a season best time would be
Will Hyatt, who would finish in third place in the 5000m with a time of 16:35.93.
In the field events,
Payton Kokot would nearly match his season best mark in the high jump, finishing sixth with a leap of 1.90m (6' 2.75"). Meanwhile,
Goodness Okere would tie for MSUB's best placements of the day with a second-place finish in the triple jump, bounding 13.14m (43' 1.5"). Also grabbing second place finishes would be
Isaac Perkins in the hammer throw, who would throw a best of 52.46m (172' 1"), and
Kody Cooper, who would be runner up in the javelin with a throw of 50.79m (166' 7"). Behind them,
Cort Sandefur would top MSUB's finishers in the discus, throwing 41.67m (136' 8"). He would also PR in the hammer throw, finishing fifth place with a mark of 49.26m (161' 7").
Kody Biggs would PR in both the discus with a mark of 36.76m (120' 7"), and the hammer throw with a mark of 45.64m (149' 9"). His mark in the hammer throw would finish tenth at the meet.
On the women's side of things,
Mya Richardson would once again lead MSUB's sprinters at the meet, finishing in fourth place in the 100m with a time of 12.87, and seventh in the 200m with a time of 25.61.
Bella Klein would take a second-place finish in the 400m with a time of 59.08.
Madeline Severson would PR in the 800m, finishing in seventh with a time of 2:17.21, a time that moved her to second in the event in program history.
Also setting a PR on the day would be
Chloe Shennum, who would set a best in the 1500m with a run of 5:20.92, finishing 25
th in the event.
Cecily Eagleton would be MSUB's top finisher with a second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:50.27. Behind her in the steeplechase, both
Gabi Becker and
Toree Manning would set PRs in third and fourth place, running times of 12:08.35 and 12:28.74 respectively. Rounding out the finishes on the track would be
Sara McCabe, who would take third in the 5000m with a time of 21:42.17.
In the field events,
Alyssa Sanchez would take fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.59m (34' 9"). Also finishing fourth would be
Hannah Cooper, who would set a PR in the shot put with a mark of 13.01m (42' 8.25").
Jaida Green would finish behind her in the shot put with a mark of 11.04 (36' 2.75") in 12
th place, but would lead the Yellowjackets in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.46m (155' 8"). Finally,
Mattea McColly would lead MSUB in the discus with a mark of 33.00m (108' 3"), finishing in 15
th place.
THE BUZZ: Perkins and Klein were named Intermountain Health Athletes of the Meet.
