BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings track and field programs competed in their final home meet of the 2025 outdoor season Thursday, with both the men's and women's teams collecting a number of quality marks in the Yellowjacket Open.
The meet for the Yellowjackets would be highlighted by a pair of school records on the women's side, with
Mya Richardson breaking the school record in the 200m, and
Bella Klein breaking the record in the 400m. Klein would set her record first on the day, finishing with a time of 58.26 seconds and taking fifth overall in the meet. Her time would best MSUB's previous record of 59.29 seconds, set by Josey Smeidala in 2016. Following that, Richardson would join in in collecting a school record, with her 25.24 time in the 200m finishing ninth at the meet, and besting the previous record mark of 25.44 set by Erika Halle in 2010. Richardson would narrowly miss out on breaking the school record in the 100m as well, with her 12.37 run just .03 off matching the program's record mark, and finishing in fourth place overall.
Behind the record breakers on the women's side, a number of other 'Jackets would set PR's and earn quality finishes at the Yellowjacket Open.
Madeline Severson would finish first in the 800m, running a time of 2:28.28. She would also finish second place in the 1500m, setting a PR with her time of 4:56.56 and moving to eighth all-time in the event. Behind Severson in the 1500m,
Chloe Shennum,
Gabi Becker, and
Toree Manning would all set new PRs, while
Cecily Eagleton would come in fifth with a time of 5:13.19.
Kyanna Jarvis would PR in the 100m hurdles, finishing with a time of 15.88.
In the throws for the women,
Jaida Green would set a season best in the hammer throw, finishing in fifth with a mark of 46.09m (151' 2").
Hannah Cooper would also put up an impressive throw in the javelin, finishing with a mark of 36.44m (119' 6"). Cooper would also finish as MSUB's top performer in the shot put, with her mark of 11.69m (38' 4.25") finishing in seventh. Finally,
Alyssa Sanchez would pick up a pair of solid finishes in her two jumping events, finishing in sixth with a 10.03m (32' 11") leap in the triple jump, and a PR of 4.85m (15' 11") in the long jump.
On the men's side of things,
JayCee Herbert would set a season best mark in the 100m with a time of 10.87. Behind him,
Ryen Sanders would PR with a time of 11.25, finishing in 15
th place. Sanders would also PR in the 200m with a time of 22.40, finishing in second on MSUB's roster behind the 22.15 time of
Mason Dezember, who would land in 12
th place. In the 400m, Ben Ralston would finish in third with a time of 49.97 mark to snag third place, while
Kaleb Scott and
Brock Grossman would finish fourth and sixth with times of 51.06 and 51.29 seconds respectively. Grossman's time would be a PR mark for the freshman.
Meanwhile in the distance events,
Lennon Davis would win the 800m, running a season best time of 2:04.42. Behind him,
Wyatt May would finish second with a mark of 2:10.11, while
Will Hyatt and Jon Stene would both PR. May would then finish second once more in the 1500m, running a PR time of 4:15.48, while Davis and Stene would also PR in the event. In the throws, Cody Cooper would win the javelin with a throw of 51.16m (167' 10").
Isaac Perkins would grab third place in the hammer throw, finishing with a mark of 50.52m (165' 9"), and
Cort Sandefur would lead the pack for the Yellowjackets in the discus with a throw of 43.08m (141' 4"). In the shot put,
Kody Biggs would PR with a mark of 13.32m (43' 8.5"), while Sandefur would finish just behind him with a PR mark of 13.29m (43' 7.25"). In high jump,
Payton Kokot would finish in second place, collecting a season best mark of 1.88m (6' 2"). Behind him,
Goodness Okere and
Landon Dunning would each clear 1.73m (5' 8"), with Okere setting a PR. Okere would also PR in the triple jump, leaping 13.44m (44' 1.25") to grab a third-place finish.
THE BUZZ: Klein and Okere were named Intermountain Health Athletes of the Meet.
