BROOKINGS, S.D. –
Ryan Fenley and
Hannah Cooper from the Montana State University Billings track and Field team competed in the South Dakota State Open Meet in Brookings, South Dakota this Friday and Saturday, with Fenley competing in the heptathlon and Cooper in the high jump.
Cooper, coming off her selection as the GNAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, and back-to-back weeks where she has broken the school indoor high jump record, continued her impressive start to the season in Brookings, where she only participated in the high jump. The sophomore cleared a height of 1.68 meters on her final attempt, just .01 meters shy of her career best and her own school record. Her jump earned her a second-place finish in the event, besting multiple DI jumpers. Cooper remains in third place on the GNAC Performance List in the high jump this season just weeks away from the GNAC Indoor Championships.
The SDSU Open marks Fenley's first time competing in the heptathlon this season. The senior completed a time of 7.69 in the 60-meter race. He also cleared 3.20 meters in his first pole vault mark of the year.
