SEATTLE, Wash.- The Montana State University Billings volleyball team (2–18, 0–14 GNAC) fell short 3-0 to Seattle Pacific University (10-12, 5-9 GNAC) Saturday afternoon in the Royal Brougham Pavilion.
The Falcons played some of their best volleyball this season, showing out in front of their home crowd. SPU hit an impressive .345 as a team while tallying 46 total kills, 45 assists, seven service aces, and seven blocks.
Although the Yellowjackets struggled to find consistency in efficiency,
Allie Dorman,
Addison Holcomb, and
Stella Scott were able to contribute to the attack. Dorman led the way with nine kills and nine digs, followed by Holcomb with six kills, and Scott with five kills and two service aces.
Kenzie Allen and
Reese Sherwood chipped in 10 assists apiece while
Avarey Stuff held down the back row with 17 digs, six assists, and one ace.
The Falcons caught fire from the jump, jumping out to an early 7-3 lead before MSUB responded with a 4-1 run of their own to bring them back within one. It was back-and-forth volleyball from there until SPU scored four straight points to extent their lead to seven. Dorman, Holcomb, and
Tehani Moniz battled back with kills, but it was not enough. Seattle Pacific was able to pull away with a 25-16 first set victory.
Similar to the first set, the Falcons jumped to an early advantage before MSUB responded. A service ace and a kill from Scott, followed by kills from Holcomb and
Kenzie Allen cut the 'Jackets deficit to just one point. SPU answered quickly with an impressive 10-3 run to take an 18-10 advantage. The Yellowjackets didn't lie down as a Dorman kill sparked a 6-2 run of their own to bring them back within four. MSUB's momentum was cut short as the Falcons ended the set with five straight points to take the second set 25-16.
The 'Jackets kept it tight in the third set of the afternoon, keeping the match tied through seven points. Seattle Pacific yet again had a massive response with a 9-1 run to jump ahead 15-7. Highlighted by Scotts second service ace of the game and another Holcomb kill, MSUB was able to claw back within four points with a 5-1 run. Dorman would later add her ninth kill of the match, but the Falcons powered late to take the final set 25-16 to complete the sweep.
