The Yellowjackets (2-9-0, 1-6-0 GNAC) looked to complete the double against the Saints (2-8-1, 1-5-1 GNAC) in the 2025 season, after defeating the Saints 1-0 in the first meeting between the two squads back in Billings. But this time around, it would be the Saints who would take the victory on their home field, using a pair of first half goals to take an early lead, before seeing out the second half with a goal in the final second of the game to hand MSUB the loss. Saint Martin's would control much of the action, outshooting MSUB 22-6 overall and 9-1 in shots on goal.
Jamie Maas would lead MSUB in shots with two, totaling MSUB's lone shot on goal. Behind her,
Cianna Sexton,
Cesia Swain,
Nyah Attaway, and
Briel Powers would each shoot once. In goal,
Natalie Weinmaster made six saves.
The Yellowjackets would find themselves on the defense early, with Saint Martin's putting a pair of shots on goal inside the first minute of action. Weinmaster would be able to save both chances, but it would set the tone early for the Saints, who would outshoot MSUB 6-1 in the opening ten minutes, including a third shot on goal which would force Weinmaster into another save in the seventh minute. The hosts would find their break in the 19
th minute following a foul in the box, giving the Saints a penalty they would subsequently convert to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. They would continue to keep the 'Jackets on the backfoot, doubling their advantage in the 32
nd minute on a goal by Briana-Jean Tanaka, giving the Saints insurance before halftime.
MSUB would look to change their fortunes in the second half, hoping to save a result. But the second 45 minutes would proceed in a similar manor to the first, with Saint Martin's continuing to put pressure on the 'Jackets back line while cutting out MSUB's attacking chances. The Saints would outshoot the 'Jackets 12-1 across the second half, although MSUB would defend hard, with Weinmaster making two more saves and the Yellowjacket defense making a number of interventions. But the Saints would find another goal in the final minute, with Tanaka collecting a brace after scoring with 23 seconds remaining, sealing a win and sealing a win over the 'Jackets.
THE BUZZ: Weinmaster was named Intermountain Health Player of the Game…
