SEATTLE, Wash. – The Montana State University Billings women's soccer team fell short to conclude the team's second consecutive week of road matches, falling just short in a 1-0 loss to Seattle Pacific University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Yellowjackets (2-10, 1-7 GNAC) conceded the deciding goal early in the match, with a third minute goal putting the Falcons (5-3-5, 3-2-3 GNAC) in the driver's seat in the opening stages of the match. The 'Jackets would have their chances to even the match, despite the Falcons outshooting MSUB 29-4 in total, and 7-2 in shots on goal. And although the Yellowjackets managing to keep Seattle Pacific off the scoresheet for the rest of the match, they would not be able to find the game-tying goal, being unable to find their way back into the game.
The Falcons would take the lead on their first true attack of the game, with Kayla Wallace opening the scoring after rebounding the team's first shot of the game. From there, the Falcons would continue to mount pressure on MSUB, not allowing the 'Jackets to attempt a single shot in the first 45 minutes, while attempting 14 shots of their own. Weinmaster would keep the hosts off the scoreboard for the rest of the opening half, with Weinmaster making three saves to keep MSUB within one goal heading into halftime.
The Falcons would continue to pressure the Yellowjackets as the second half wore on, attempting 15 more shots in the second half with three more shots on goal. But Weinmaster would stand tall in net, preventing Seattle Pacific from scoring another goal in the match. Meanwhile, MSUB's offense would start to show signs of life, with
Liberty Palmer forcing a save on the Yellowjacket's first shot of the game. She would attempt two more in short succession in the 72
nd minute, but be unable to put those chances on target, and while
Briel Powers would get her chance on net in the dying minutes of the game, she would be unable to convert her effort, with the final whistle sounding minutes later to seal the 'Jackets defeat.
Natalie Weinmaster would make six saves in net for the Yellowjackets, while Palmer would attempt three shots with one shot on goal. Powers would collect MSUB's lone other shot attempt, putting her effort on goal.
THE BUZZ: Weinmaster was named Intermountain Health Player of the Game… her six saves would tie her career high, marking the third time she has totaled six saves on the season… MSUB is now 4-30-3 all-time in matches against the Falcons.
