BISMARCK, N.D. – The Montana State University Billings men's and women's track and field programs sent a group of throwers to compete in the Mike Thorson Open hosted in Bismarck, ND Saturday, with a first-place finish and school record setting mark from
Jaida Green highlighting the day.
Green, a junior from Helena, MT, etched her name atop the Yellowjacket's record books in the weight throw, with her mark of 15.81m (51' 10.5") edging out the previous best, a throw of 15.78m (51' 9.25") performed last season by
Grace Jones. It's the first school record for Green, who also ranks in the all-time top ten for the Yellowjackets in the indoor shot put (4
th), and in the hammer throw (2
nd).
Also competing in the weight throw at the meet for the 'Jacket women was
Isa Caballero, who finished with a best throw of 11.45m (37' 6.75"), finishing in 16
th place.
On the men's side, the Yellowjackets were led by freshman
Kody Biggs, who finished as the 'Jackets top finisher in both the weight throw and shot put. Biggs achieved a third place finish in the weight throw, with a best mark of 14.58m (47' 10"). He would then go on to finish in sixth in the shot put, achieving a mark of 13.12m (43' 0.5"). Finishing behind him in both events was a fellow freshman
Kody Cooper, whose mark of 12.05m (39' 6.5") was good enough for tenth in the weight throw. Cooper's shot put mark of 10.50m (34' 5.5") put him in 22
nd place in the event.
