BILLINGS, Mont.- The Yellowjacket men's basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season, capping off the 18 game D2 CCA Tip Off Classic with a 67-55 victory over Texas A&M International (1-2). The Montana State Billings community showed out on the Sunday night matchup and the 'Jackets/Dustdevils gave them the best contest of the weekend.
The Yellowjackets faced adversity early in the nightcap, shooting just 34.5 percent from the field, 13.3 percent from beyond the arch, and were outrebounded 21-15. The second half was a completely different story as the 'Jackets dominated the final 20 minutes, outshooting the Dustdevils 69.6 percent from the field and 44.4-9.1 percent from three, outrebounded TAMIU 20-15, and forced 11 fouls while only surrendering six. By the end of regulation, MSUB shot an impressive 50 percent from the field as a team while totaling 35 rebounds, 15 assists, four blocks, and six steals.

Leading the way for the 'Jackets was Livingston native Brendon Johnson. Johnson posted a team high of 20 points while shooting 62 percent from the field with six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Following close behind and posting his first double-double of his MSUB career was Kael Robinson. The All-Tournament Team honoree totaled 14 points on 5-11 from the field with 10 boards, four assists, and a pair of blocks. Joining Robinson on the All-Tournament Team was Famous Lefthand who tallied 12 points on the night on 4-10 from the field with three rebounds and one assist.

HEAR FROM COACH FENNELLY: "Super proud of the guys grit and effort that they showed tonight. I told them that it was going to be a toughness weekend having three games in three days and we knew we were going to face some adversity. Jalen went down early with an injury, so Jajuan held down the point position and was truly our anchor defensively. Pedro made some big shots for us tonight, Brendan took his game to a whole new level, and Kael was steady as can be and played in multiple positions for us. We knew coming out of the half we had to meet a level of toughness on the defensive end to get back into the game and the guys did just that. I couldn't be prouder and Go 'Jackets!"

The final game of the tournament did not start as planned for the Yellowjackets with Jalen Tot going down early and the Dustdevils getting ahead to a 17-point lead in the first half. MSUB was able to limit the damage after back-to-back buckets from Kael Robinson but the 'Jackets headed into the half down 36-23.

Coming out of the half, the Yellowjackets were firing on all cylinders. Bu the 9:48 mark in the second half the 'Jackets had gone on a 21-7 run to take their first lead of the night since the first 30 seconds of the game, and overcoming a 17-point deficit. From there, MSUB had all the momentum and didn't look back, extending their lead to as much as 12 points and claiming the victory 67-55.
