PORTLAND, Ore. – The Montana State University Billings women's soccer team had five players recognized with All-GNAC honors, following the announcement by the conference on Tuesday.
Liberty Palmer was selected to the All-GNAC First Team, becoming the first Yellowjacket to receive first team honors since 2022, and just the tenth player in program history to make the all-conference first team. Meanwhile,
Ava Curtright was selected to the All-GNAC Second Team, while the trio of
Taylor Gertsch,
Kendall McGraw, and
Erika Wilson each earned All-GNAC Honorable Mention honors.
"We are excited for our five student athletes for being recognized in such a talented conference," said head coach
Abiye Jack. "They all have worked so hard in preparation for and during the season. They deserve this recognition."
Palmer earned first team honors for the first time after twice being picked to the All-GNAC Second Team in 2021 and 2023. Palmer was one of the top goal scoring threats in the conference this season, finishing the regular season tied with the second most goals in the GNAC with six, also a team high. The junior started 17 of MSUB's 18 games this season, led the team in total points as well with 13, also finishing with one assist on the season. Palmer attempted a team high 51 shots across the 2024 season, putting 41.2% of her chances on goal. Palmer scored one game-winning goal this season, and went 1-1 on penalty attempts. She currently stands at 14 career goals, ranking tenth in program history.
"Liberty just continues to raise the bar for herself," said Jack. "She has faced many setbacks but somehow manages to come back stronger each time. She is a goal scorer, a tone setter, and one of the most resilient people I know."
The freshman Curtright earned All-GNAC Second Team honors after redshirting last season, quickly becoming a crucial piece of the Yellowjacket's defense. She played in all 18 of MSUB's matches, making 17 starts, and totaling three points, coming from both her first career goal and assist. Curtright played the full 90 minutes nine times this season, and helped the Yellowjackets keep a total of six clean sheets, and concede an average of 1.06 goals per game.
"Ava is a smart player and is as tough as they come," Jack said. "She worked so hard to recover from an ACL injury and to achieve this in her freshman season is special. I'm so happy for Ava and glad she received recognition for her play."
A Billings native, Gertsch picked up an all-conference honorable mention nod for the second time in her career, previously receiving the honor in 2022. An anchor in the midfield for the 'Jackets, Gertsch started each match for MSUB this season, and played every available minute this season. Her 1,620 total minutes were the most in a season by a Yellowjacket since 2021, where her sister Hailee played 1.630 minutes. The senior totaled one goal, coming from the penalty spot, and one assist, adding up to three points on the season. Gertsch finished her career tied for the second most games played in MSUB history with 78, and ranks seventh in MSUB history for total minutes with 6,093, and eighth in career starts with 73.
"Taylor is a special player and leader," Jack said. "She is incredibly consistent, skillful, and is always willing to do the dirty work that may go unnoticed. Taylor has been a rock for this program and I'm glad she was recognized in her senior season."
A fellow graduating senior, McGraw played and started all 18 of the Yellowjacket's games in 2024. Her honorable mention selection marks the first All-GNAC honor of McGraw's career. The midfielder set new career highs this season in points with nine, and goals with four. McGraw also totaled one game-winning goal on the season for MSUB, and totaled 22 shots, putting 40.9% of her looks on goal. McGraw finishes her MSUB career with 18 total points, scoring eight goals and collecting two assists.
"Kendall has been a consistent presence for the team over the years and has raised her level each year," said Jack. "She scored some impactful goals this season. It is great to see her receive recognition in her senior season."
Another crucial piece of the midfield for MSUB, Wilson was tapped for her second consecutive All-GNAC Honorable Mention selection. The junior tied for a team high in assists this season with four, which also tied for sixth most in the GNAC this season. Wilson also added a pair of goals on the campaign, including one game-winning goal, and finished with eight total points. She put 61.5% of her shots on goal this season.
"Erika is an engine for this team," said Jack. "Her quality on the ball and tenacity on defense make so much happen. It is even more impressive that Erika is able to maintain her tempo for every minute of every game."
