BELLINGHAM, Wash.- Senior
Liam O'Halloran stays hot and led the Montana State University Billings men's golf team at the Western Washington University Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.
O'Halloran made 8 birdies during his 54-hole stretch at the tournament and tied for 17
th place among the field of 67 participants on the par 72, 6,610-yard course.
As a team the 'Jackets posted a three-round score of 897 (295-303-299) and took 8
th place among the field of 11 teams competing at the event.
O'Halloran showed consistency throughout the whole event, with back-to-back rounds of 2-over par 74 and a 73 for his second round. Overall, he posted a three-round score of 221 (74-73-74).
Blake Finn came in second for the Yellowjackets posting a total score of 223 (74-75-74) just two strokes behind O'Halloran. Finn had his best placement of the year coming in 24
th overall.
Tying for 26
th place was senior
Carson Garner, who carded a three-round score of 225 (72-77-76). The second and third round Garner posted a pair of double bogies that hurt him, but with eight bridies overall he a was able to put up a respectable score.
Tying for 48
th and rounding out the Yellowjackets was senior
Kevin Kolb who posted a score of 231 (77-78-76), and
Lucas Howell who posted a 231 (75-81-75).
Tyler Ashman from Chico State took the individual title with a score of 212 (75-70-67). Simon Fraser won the tournament with a three-round score of 873 (288-290-295), holding off the host school Western Washington by just two strokes.
THE BUZZ: Liam O'Halloran was named Intermountain Health Player of the Tournament.
COMING UP: The 'Jackets are back home for the Mike Grob Cup on October 12-14
th. This event will be played at Laurel Golf Club, Lake Hills Golf Club, and Hilands Golf Club.
