‘Jackets Lose 2-1 to Western Oregon

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Appearing in their final road game of the season, the Montana State University Billings men's soccer team was unable to come away with a victory, falling 2-1 to Western Oregon University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

The Yellowjackets (4-7-3, 1-5-2 GNAC) started promisingly, picking up an early goal in the first half to take the lead. But the Wolves (10-3-2, 7-1-2 GNAC) would come back, grabbing a pair of second half goals to sink the 'Jackets, and continue their impressive season.

Ty Vohland scored the Yellowjacket's goal in the match, scoring in his only attempt in the match. Ryushiro Morita put two shots on goal, while Callum Bryan placed one of his two shots on goal. Kamden Beck put his lone shot on goal, while Marc-Paul Renaud attempted two shots, and Bjarne Fedkenhauer shot once.

The 'Jackets wasted no time getting into the match, scoring in just the fifth minute of the game. With MSUB pressing high up the field, Fedkenhauer was able to steal the ball from a Wolves' defender, quickly playing the ball to Vohland who's outside of the foot shot went into the top left corner, giving the Yellowjackets an early lead. They would hold that lead throughout the opening 45 minutes, trading shots with Western Oregon, who managed five shots compared to three from MSUB.

The Wolves would come out hot in the second half however, immediately putting pressure on MSUB to defend. The Wolves finished the half with double the shots of MSUB, and finally were able to strike with a goal from a corner kick in the 62nd minute to tie the game at one. Western Oregon would continue to push, finally finding their winning goal in the 79th minute, and seeing out the match despite a late push from MSUB.

THE BUZZ: Fedkenhauer was selected as the Intermountain Health Player of the Game… The assist was his fifth of the season, surpassing his total from his freshman year this past season… Vohland's goal was his sixth of the season, extending his team lead, and tying for seventh most in the GNAC.

UP NEXT: The 'Jackets return to Billings to finish off their regular season with a pair of home matches next week, kicking off their final week Thursday, November 9 with a matchup against Simon Fraser. The match is scheduled to start at 7 PM at Yellowjacket Field. Tickets will be available here, with live stats available here, and live video available here.
