SEATTLE, Wash. – The Montana State University Billings men's soccer team were defeated on the road by Seattle Pacific University 3-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Yellowjackets (4-4-1, 1-2-0 GNAC) entered the game looking to build on their first conference win of the season Thursday, but the Falcons (3-4-2, 1-1-1 GNAC) had other plans, jumping out to a lead in the first half and controlling the pace of play most of the night, outshooting the 'Jackets 11-6. It was a physical match, with a combined 33 fouls and nine cards in the match.
The 'Jackets sustained pressure early from the Falcon's attack, looking to hit the hosts on the counterattack to get a goal. They nearly did, nearly missing an early chance by
Benjamin Banks hitting the side netting. But the Falcons would breakthrough in the 28
th minute, with Reymundo Mendez grabbing the opening goal to give Seattle Pacific a 1-0 lead. The 'Jackets threatened again in the half, with a 41
st minute strike from
Callum Bryan being kept out by a save from Falcon's goalkeeper Cam Welty, keeping the deficit at one going into halftime.
But early into the second half, Seattle Pacific would increase their lead. Just four minutes after the restart, a foul in the box would give the Falcons a penalty kick, scored by Orlando Erazo to make the game 2-0. Shortly after that, MSUB would be forced down to ten men when Banks was shown a red card. The Falcons would then make it 3-0, and see out the remainder of the game to ensure the win, as the 'Jackets split results in the week's slate of games.
Callum Bryan and
Taylor Moore finished with a shot on goal each, while Banks,
Ryushiro Morita,
Ty Vohland, and
Kolja Thomas each attempted a shot in the match. Goalkeeper
Jeremi Campagnolo made two saves.
