BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings men's soccer team was defeated 4-0 by Northwest Nazarene University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Thursday night.
The Yellowjackets (4-5-1, 1-3 GNAC) outshot the Nighthawks (3-4-3, 1-1-2 GNAC) by a total of 11-9 in the match, but were unable to convert their shots into goals, while the Nighthawks placed seven of their shots on goal, converting the majority of those chances on their way to victory.
The game started out on a tough note for MSUB when the Nighthawks would score in the second minute of play, courtesy of Jim Wagenaar. Wagenaar would double his total in the 15
th minute, forcing the Yellowjackets to battle uphill early. They would find their chances, with six corner kicks, and a couple of free kicks, but the hosts would be unable to find a goal as the score remained 2-0 at halftime.
Wagenaar wasted no time once again in the second half, scoring in the 50
th minute to complete his hat trick and give NNU a 3-0 lead. MSUB would continue to battle in the match, a battle that changed dramatically when the Nighthawks's Grady Thurman was sent off in the second half with a red card, forcing Northwest Nazarene to play a man down. But the 'Jackets remained unable to convert their chances, going scoreless in the match as the Nighthawks tacked on another to finish the match.

Guillermo Gonzalez.
