BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings men's soccer team was defeated 3-1 by Seattle Pacific University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Yellowjackets (4-6-1, 1-4-0 GNAC) and Falcons (4-5-2, 2-2-1 GNAC) faced off for the second time in seven days, with the 'Jackets looking to get revenge for their loss the previous week. They looked as if they would when they took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Seattle Pacific would rally with a trio of third half goals, sinking MSUB in an intense match that saw ten yellow cards.
Offensive opportunities were few and far between for the two squads in the first half, with MSUB earning three shots, while limiting the Falcons to just one attempt. The 'Jackets would take advantage of their first half looks however, when
Bjarne Fedkenhauer played a through ball into the box for
Kamden Beck, who would shrug off a Falcon defender before slotting it home, giving the Yellowjackets the lead at nearly the 31
st minute mark.
But the Falcons improved as the game entered the second half, taking nine shots over the final 45 minutes compared to four from the 'Jackets. They'd tie things up in the 51
st minute when a foul in the box would give the Falcons a penalty kick, which Reymundo Mendez would finish. Five minutes later, they'd take the lead with a goal from Cameron Yriondo. As the half wore on, the game became even more physical, with a total of 22 second half fouls between the two teams as the Yellowjackets fought to equalize. But they would be unable to find a second goal, and when the Falcons found a third goal with just seconds to go in the match, it would be all over from there.
Callum Bryan finished with two shots, putting one shot on goal, while both Beck and
Jack Jarrett put their lone shots on goal.
Ty Vohland,
Kolja Thomas, and
Marc-Paul Renaud each attempted one shot. Goalkeeper
Jeremi Campagnolo made two saves.
THE BUZZ: Beck was selected as the Intermountain Health Player of the Game… his goal was his first of the season, and the second of his MSUB career… Fedkenhauer's assist was his fourth of the season, matching his total from last season… it moves the sophomore three assists away from entering the top 10 in program history for the Yellowjackets.
UP NEXT: MSUB continues it's season with a pair of road matches next week, with the first scheduled against Western Washington University on Thursday, October 19 at 7 P.M. PDT (8 P.M. MDT). Live video will be
