BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State University Billings women's volleyball head coach
Casey Williams announced the signing of Yavapai College transfer Paiten Langston on Wednesday.
Â
Langston, a 6'1" middle blocker, will enter MSUB as a junior in fall 2022. She joins Caty Havekost as MSUB volleyball's class of 2022 signings thus far.
Â
"We are so excited that Paiten has decided to join our program," MSUB head volleyball coach
Casey Williams said. "She will bring some great experience and is a great addition to the team."
Â
Langston is not only the first junior college transfer in this year's class, but also the ninth junior college player Williams has recruited during her head coaching tenure at MSUB.
Â
"After seeing the campus and meeting the amazing coaches and players, everything seemed to align with my wants and needs," Langston said. "I am super excited to be a part of this school and volleyball program."
Â
As a sophomore in fall 2021, Langston helped the Roughriders advance to the NJCAA Region I Championships, at which they fell in five sets to eventual Southwest District B runners-up Arizona Western College. Along the way, Langston led the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference in blocks (115) and blocks-per-set (1.25), the latter of which ranked eleventh in the nation. Offensively, she was fourth on her team with 109 kills.
Â
Additionally, Langston was a first-team all-region selection, earned ACCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors once, made Yavapai College's Athletic Director's Honor Roll and maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average in the fall 2021 term. She was also a team captain this past fall.
Â
During her freshman season, which was played in spring 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Langston was part of a Roughriders program that won ACCAC, Region I and Southwest District B titles en route to earning a bid in the NJCAA DI National Championship Tournament. At that tournament, Langston and the Roughriders entered as the No. 15 seed and finished 13th.
Â
Langston's single-game highs include 13 block assists (vs. Utah State Eastern, 9/3/2021) 14 total blocks (vs. Utah State Eastern, 9.3) 10 kills (vs. Northeastern, 4/16), three service aces (vs. Navarro, 8/21) and six digs (vs. Arizona Western, 11/3).
Â
Prior to her junior college career, Langston prepped at Copper Hills High School, located in West Jordan, Utah. During her senior year, Langston helped lead her team to its first-ever runner-up finish in the 2019 UHSAA 6A Volleyball Championships. That year, Langston's 91 blocks ranked second in her region and fifth in the 6A classification. All told, Langston was part of three regional championship-winning teams and was a team captain as a senior.
Â
Outside of volleyball, Langston ran track for two seasons; she specialized in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. In the classroom, she was an all-state academic selection and finished first in her high school class.
Â
MSUB went 12-16 – including a 7-11 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play – and finished seventh in the conference in 2021. The Yellowjackets are expected to bring back four of its six starters in 2022.
