ALAMEDA, Calif.- The Montana State University Billings Women's Golf team finished play at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by California State University, East Bay. In two rounds of play, MSUB shot a combined 709 (360-349) to finish in 18
th place.
California State University, San Marcos won the tournament with a two round total of 597 (304-293). Jamie Jacob from CSSM won individual honors with a two round total of 140 (71-69).
"I felt like we did a good job getting off the tee," said assistant coach Steven Falls Down. "We hit a lot of fairways and were in good position to approach the greens. All the mental work we put in this off-season helped us bounce back from bad shots and continue to grind through the rounds. We will need to continue to work on our short game. It has been awhile since we have seen greens that undulating and fast."
Tierney Messmer was the Yellowjacket's top finisher with a sore of 164. Messmer shot an 84 in round one and an 80 in round two to finish twenty over par which tied her for 51
st place.
Kinsey Irvin finished in 85
th place with a combined 180 (90-90).
Avery Gill tied for 88
th with a 185 (95-90),
Sydney Rochford came in 90
th with a 186 (87-86) and
Jalen Wagner shot a 188 (91-97) to come in tied for 92
nd overall.
